Bottom line of article is that S2000, NSX and Insight production will move from the Takanezawa plant near Tokyo to its Suzuka plant in western Japan, next summer.

It looks like they just want to consolidate some of their operations to reduce costs and also have room for some of their other operations. It says that the engines and bodies for NSX, S2000 and Insight will be made and assembled in the Suzuka plant. That's a good thing, guys. I don't think they are trying to increase production, just kind of do a better "quality control" on what they are currently making.

Has anybody been to Suzuka? Is it nice and clean and relatively low in pollution compared to the rest of Japan? I'm just wondering why they would name the blue "Suzuka Blue" and figured maybe the air is cleaner there. But with a factory making cars... I guess one can't be too sure.

So far almost all of Honda's moves have been right on target. I have no doubt that they know what they are doing here too.

I don't think so either. I'm a little confused, though... Isn't Takanezawa the name of the facility (in Tochigi)? Are the engines made in a different facility than the assembly location? I always thought it was all the same place...

Buy, anyway, I've always thought of our car as "hand made". That illusion will be impossible to retain after the car makes a transition to Suzuka.

Suzuka has a race track, minako... S2000 colors are named after various tracks.

The engines are NOT put together in the same factory that the S2000 is assembled in. We never did figure out where the engines came from when we toured the plant.

It's more acurate to say our cars are "hand assembled." For example, the frame is NOT made by a guy with some metal and a hammer. But all the dash stuff, the suspension, the seats, the gas tank, the intake - that's all put in by hand. No robotics at all. The only role the robotics have at the Takanezawa plant is for welding - and maybe painting, but that was in an area we didn't tour.

Hopefully the Suzuka plant will allow the same level of quality.

What'd be really cool, though, if this let Honda price a 400hp NSX around $55k. (Hey, a guy can dream, right? )
