I'm curious to know about one of your previous posts with you and the president of Townsend Leather...
You hinted that Lexol (or similar product) wasn't good for the leather, what is? I wanna keep my leather tip-top shape ALL the time!

I've heard that HideFood is sold at Jaguar dealers, and is very good.

I think the anti-Lexol argument is that it's water-based, and water can lead to cracking.

I still use it, though.

I think the Connolly's Hide Food is water based also. I know you've seen it separate, and it has to be shaken to remix it.
At one point, all the British sports car guys used Connolly's on their hides, and most of the British cars from the 50s and mid 60s had leather seats. I know I've never seen one without cracked hides, to include the 65 TR-4 I had. And I'm talking then, not now.

According to the folks at Townsend, the key issue is the chemical composition of the leather care and its ph rating. The care products should not leave any oils, silicones, waxes, soaps, etc on the leather. Most of them do. Most of the care products on the market they also say, including the Connally stuff, has the wrong ph.

Townsend has leather care kit which includes a leather treatment and a stain remover for ink and other such marks. They're ph balanced and ideal, they said, for their own leather as well as the stock Honda leather. Townsend is not accustomed to selling the kit retail (they give it away with all of their major leather projects -- largely custom interiors for privately owned jet aircraft), so they're trying to work out a price. As soon as they do, we'll be selling them.
