Default The Official Muskingum County/Hocking Hills Drive Thread

The moment you have all been waiting for: details of the Muskingum County/Hocking Hills Drive! This is planned as a day trip with lots of good roads and some awesome sites to see. Originally envisioned as an S2000/NSX drive, we definitely do not want to exclude any of "the usual suspects" so Porsches, Vipers, and other exotica are more than welcome! The route we are taking has a number of unmarked corners that can get fairly tight, so it has a different feel than the Route 26 drive, for example. Everyone is encouraged to bring their FRS two-way radios for ease of communication and for keeping the groups together. The schedule:

Sunday August 24th

10:00 AM - Arrive at the rally point for the beginning of this drive. We will gather in the parking lot of the Bob Evans in Zanesville. Directions from Columbus using 70E. Take the exit number 155- toward OH-60 S/ OH-146 E/ SEVENTH ST (0.13 miles). Turn LEFT onto ELBERON AVE (0.14 miles). Turn LEFT onto OH-146/ OH-60/ UNDERWOOD ST (0.15 miles).

10:30 AM - Form up and depart for the Muskingum County portion of the drive. We will be making a stop at the Burr Oak State Park before continuing on to Nelsonville for lunch.

Lunch - We will be stopping at the Sonic for lunch. Don't worry, they have picnic tables. No need to eat in your car!

Afternoon - Back on the road and into the Hocking Hills. The route gets even better at this point.

Old Man's Cave - We'd like to stop in the afternoon at Old Man's Cave for photos.

Dinner/Goodbyes - tentatively scheduled for the Old Dutchman (Amish) restaurant in Logan. There is also a miniature golf course and petting zoo nearby if we end up having time to kill. It might make more sense to continue on towards Pickerington closer to Columbus, have dinner, and depart from there. Feedback on this is appreciated.

If you want to meet in Columbus and caravan out to Zanesville, we will be using our familiar meeting place of JC Penny Outlet. Please be to JC Penny at 8:45 AM and we will depart by 9:00 AM.

There will be an insurance waiver to sign when we meet up in Zanesville. Additionally, I will need a fax or scan of your driver's license and current insurance card as has been done in the past. You can email them to: strangedaze@columbus.rr.com or you can fax them to (614) 497-8450. If you have a co-pilot who will be sharing driving duties, please ask them to send in their info as well. If you are bringing a friend with their own car, we will also need their info ahead of time.

The insurance details are the waiver that everyone will need to sign to participate at this event. This is a requirement of all meets. It is even the same form you sign if you go to an SCCA autocross event.

Joe, looks like you've put together an excellent event.

I can't take all the credit, although I will be the point man for coordinating people, insurance, etc. Mitch B has provided a great route and David was really the one who kept pushing for us to get this thing planned!

Hey, Mocky is going to make it! This would be a good chance for everyone who hasn't met him yet to finally see that he is real!

Sounds like a great plan to me. I have commited to help a fellow OSU alum/friend move up to U of M that weekend (earning my ticket to the big game), BUT considering this is a one day event I should be able to swing it. Again a big thanks to Mitch, Joe and others for putting this together. I promise to come prepared with a full tank of gas and if a passenger is present, they will have an iron stomach (read: no Tanya)
