Help design the ultimate A-Street Prepared S2000
We all know the S2000 in B-Stock class is a dominating autocross car. Once modifications are made that push it beyond stock class, things get interesting. Typical performance mods push the S2000 into A-Street Prepared. This class is dominated by extremely light weight lotus's and powerful Z06 vettes. There has been a lot of discussion about moving the S2000 to B-Street Prepared which I think is a step in the right direction, however, BSP has nearly the same level of competition and times as ASP.
Can the S2000 be competitive in ASP? On a local level: sure. On a National level: I think it could trophy but I doubt it could win but, we may as well try so how can we build an S2000 to take full advantage of ASP rules?
It is hard to add a lot of power to the S2000 within ASP rules so I would focus on minimizing weight (2500 lbs?) and maximizing suspension/traction.
The basic set-up as I see it is:
-Double adjustable coilovers with spring rates around 9kg/mm front and 12kg/mm rear. Ride height set to 1-1.5" lower than stock
-Alignment: Front - 6 deg caster, 0 toe, -1.5/-2.0 camber. Rear - 1/8" toe in, -2.5 deg camber
-Braided brake lines
-Aggressive Autocross compound pads - Recommendations?
-Headers - Toda/Mugen/Amuse...
-Single outlet Ti exhaust
-Test Pipe - I think this is legal. Is an 02 simulator legal?
-Remove A/C
-Aluminum Crank Pulley
-Aluminum Accessory Pulleys
-Aluminum Flywheel
-Intake system - Mugen/PRM/AEM...
-Thermostat and Thermoswitch - Mugen/Spoon/Speed...
-Engine management - VAFC, ECU, (race gas?) - AEM/Mugen/Spoon...
-Light weight battery - Odyssey PC545 (12 lbs)
-Bore cylinders .0472" over
-Port match intake manifold and exhaust manifold 1" from interface
-Mill head .010" to increase compression ratio
-Replace seats with light weight race seats - Recaro SPG/Kart passenger seat
-Replace steering wheel with lighter aftermarket wheel (no airbag)
-Remove spare tire, jack, & tools
-Wheels/Tires: 17" CE28N's with 245/40-17 Front and 275/40-17 Rear Hoosier A3S03's. Would prefer wider wheels such as 8.5" Front and 10" rear. Any suggestions?
What else is legal that will improve power, decrease weight, & improve grip?

I can't wait to see this when it's done.
I don't know if you've had wheelspin problems at all, but I've been fighting them all year, so if I were building an ASP S2000, I'd definitely stick an aftermarket non-Torsen LSD in there...

An 18x10.5" in the back with 285/30 Hoosier fits okay and won't hurt gearing.
The mid-year '04 or '05 S2K, with whatever changes to motor/trans/rearend, may bring with it potentially useful UD/BD parts.
ITBs would be nice to replace the OEM manifold, though the person doing so would be pioneering it for the S2K crowd.
A real LSD.
My ASP S2000 would be found wearing a BAUW v1.0.
SP offers you the opportunity to tune handling balance with lightweight, shorter springs, instead of having to opt for gigantic, tree-trunk-heavy swaybars. Not sure your spring rates are what I'd go with. More camber too.
Full Mugen hard bushing kit.
All that stuff would probably cost upwards of $30k, and net you a nearly unstreetable car that likely won't be any faster than a stock Z06...

Good suggestions. Keep them coming.
To answer some questions:
-I don't believe you can change final drive gears in Street Prepared (would be nice).
-You could swap the 2.2 liter as a whole package.
JZR,
-What offset on the 18x10.5 rear (I believe about 75mm?) and what about the front wheel?
-After watching the airflow off of Leeds Gulick in his Fordahl 914-6, with similar rear spoiler, while driving through some tire smoke at a local auto-x, I would definitely consider a BAUW. In your experience, is it really worth it at auto-x speeds?
-I agree with you about the anti-sway bars. I don't think they need to be replaced when using proper springs and damping.
I personally like the Torsen diff and have eliminated the inside wheel spin with suspension tuning. Maybe that will change with more grip.

ASP does allow update back date. I know many people that do this. Corner balancing the car would also help.
I tried to run ASP out here on a regional and local level. The car just isn't competitive.
So now I have opted to go into SM2. This is virtually unlimited. This class allows everything that BS, ASP, AP allows you to do.
So I added a supercharger to the mix.
