Garaged and in excellent condition, with just under 53k miles.
I am looking to sell for ONE reason. "Z06". I was looking for a 1999 - 2000 hardtop Vette however after driving a 2002 Z06 today I am simply blown away. The performance envelope is a level above the S2000.
I am an adult (over 30yrs old) and have pretty much babied the car since purchasing it. New S02's and Front/Rear OEM Honda brake pads at 45k miles. Other than that the car is completely stock and runs perfect. I am averaging exactly 24.3 mpg over 28k miles.
The only modifications I have added are clear side markers, a voodoo shift knob, Honda OEM front spoiler which is perfect condition and a K&N air filter. The only recalls / warranty work ever completed on the car was the spark plug recall which was done less than 2 weeks ago by my local Honda dealer.
My local Chevy dealer has offer me $18,000 on trade in plus their is a $1,600 Tax saving if I trade the car in for a Z06. I will entertain offers above what the dealer is effectively giving me $19,600. I think for anywhere around $20,500 is realistically what I would sell it for. This would give me the flexibility of buying a Z06 privately or from a dealer.
Car is located on the eastern end of Long Island NY ... Specifically Baiting Hollow NY and can be seen in Western Suffolk at my office if need be during the week.
Michael - did you work the best deal on the Z06 first, then get your trade in amount? Does NY have "courtesy trades"?
Here in PA, you get the tax savings if you do a courtesty trade....ie... You would find a buyer for the S2000 and bring them to the dealer with you.... so if you found someone at $18.5k....... then you would on paper trade it in, and your private buyer immediately buys it from the dealer....
You would still be able to negotiate the price of the Z06, since you are not really "trading in" your car. That usually gives you at least $1k-$2k of negotiating power on the Z06 plus you get an additional $500 (possibly) on the S2000 and you still save the $1600 (you guys have 9% sales tax??).
so if you can save $2k++++ on the Z06 by not trading anything in, you would still be ahead even if you sold the S2000 for $18k and did a courtesy trade.
i would just trade it in, considering the high milage.. i don't think you'll get any more than what the dealer offerd you.once you get over the $20000.00 mark there are alot of these cars with milage in the 10k-15k milage range for only a couple grand more, in equally good condition.jay
Thanks for all the help guys... I don't think a courtesy trade would work here because then the dealer would have to place at least a lemon lawn warranty on the car and would end up running it through their shop so that will cost them something.
What bothers me about the trade to the dealer is their saying that the trade in book value according to Galves is $19,800 however their is a deduction for the higher mileage which according to the dealer should be around 34k. The car is a 2000 and has been on the road for over 3 1/2 years so I am thinking the mileage should actually be somewhere around 42k-46k (3.5yrsx12k per year) so I am not that high.
I might consider taking $19,600 privately because then that would give me the flexibility of buying a Z06 privately. I guess the used car market for these cars has completely dropped out. S2000's for under $20k are a complete steal for somebody looking to get into an awesome performance car on a limited budget.
the only problem with your car is the miles, otherwise i'd jump all over it for 19600.00.. i'm a little leary of buying an s2000 with higher milage.. i sold mine about a 2 years ago for 27000 with 6000 miles on it and it was also a 2000 model year..and it took me like 3 months to sell it... jay
The only reason the mileage is a little high is because I live on the eastern part of LI so anywhere I go I have to hop onto the L.I.E. All highway driving.
I was looking at used Vette's with 25k-45k miles and the mileage on those cars concerns due to it being a GM product with questionable quality at best.
This is the 4th Honda/Acura ('00 S2000, '01 Acura TL, '94 Acura Integra GS-R, '92 Honda Prelude) product I have owned and every one has been very impressive quality wise. So a switch to a GM product, Vette or not does concern me.
i know what your saying, honestly though if i ran a chop shop i would be chopping vettes all day long, tak s me about 40 minutes to have the whole interior out of the car, including the dash( i know this ,because me and my father biuld race cars and have done a few cages in them in the last couple months ) build quality did not impress me at all..and they don't stay very tight as far as i've seen.(interior rattles and thing like that) jay
Hey Jay when do you think the break apart miles are on vettes?? I got rid of my Z06 with 3500 miles and it was still tight, but I had heard the same from others that they loose their tightness as they get older?? Sorry for the interruption

i'd say depending on the abuse thier put through anywhere from as early as 8000-12000 miles for a car that gets driven hard alot... a easier driven car might not notice it until about 30,000-40,000 miles....
sorry for the interuption of the thread, heres a ttt for ya.. goodluck sellin the car. jay
