Yeah, the airbag will prevent you from putting any child (under 12 in Canada) in the car. Some people go to long lengths to justify why it "should" be ok to put a child in the car and quote things like the schematics for the deployment of the airbag.

Do not do it. Not once. Not ever.

IF you were to outright remove the airbag, then that is different. Good luck finding someone to do that. You may be able to find a place that will put a switch on your airbag; hope it works when it is supose to and I hope that it doesnt work when it is not meant to. Just isnt worth it on either side.

There is a reasonable chance of killing the child should it deploy.

Read your owners manual regarding this issue, it is not recommended by Honda to put a child in the seat but they do have instructions if it's absolutely necessary (emergency).

Will MY04 come with airbag cut-off switch? I heard that Z4 comes with LATCH and possibly airbag cut-off switch. I also once saw a child seat in the front seat of a Boxter, but wasn't sure how they did it though. Thanks guys.

Probably not, the switch adds cost, goes in the floorboard and very few people will use it. Why make everyone pay more for the very few. The few should pay more to cover the use of the switch.

Since 1990 in the United States there have been 144 children killed by airbags. Of the 144 fatalities, 138 were either in rear-facing seats, improperly restrained or completely unrestrained, or killed by the driver airbag. These are all scenarios that are clearly not allowed and dangerous. That leaves 6 child fatalities by the passenger airbag in a front-facing seat, since 1990. Of those 6 we have no data on how severe the crash was, what type of crash or vehicle, what type of seat or how the seat was installed.

This is not a "reasonable chance of killing the child" in my opinion. Use your head, don't be blindly ignorant of the facts. Look at the data and then decide if a properly installed, compliant front-facing carseat poses undue risk. It's your decision.

Note that there have been 22 drivers and 3 adult passengers killed by airbags while properly wearing their safety belts. Maybe we should not drive our cars or take adult passengers as well.

As PJK3 and others have already said, the first thing you MUST do is have a means to disable the airbag. Then move the seat to its rearmost position. THEN you will need to choose a high quality car seat or booster seat--depending on the age and size of your child. I recommend reading Consumer Reports, Parents, AAP at http://www.aap.org/family/carseatguide.htm, or any number of other resources for more information on child restraint systems and auto safety.

An infant seat is installed rear-facing for infants under 1 yr old and is good up to about 20 lbs. A convertible child seat is appropriate for infants and toddlers under about 40 pounds and 3 years of age. Belt-over boosters go in and out of an S2k quickly and easily, but are usually appropriate only for kids over 3 years of age and over 30-40 pounds. Kids can safely use the regular, adult seat belts only after they are well over 4' 9". Although alot of parents think otherwise, this means that many middle schoolers still should be using boosters! These are just off the top of my head and are NOT comprehensive so be sure to do your homework.

FYI, I use a Britax Star Riser Comfy booster seat (it fits in the trunk when not in use). Good luck.

I don't know about the MY04 S2000, but the BMW Z4 does have an integrated, ignition-key-controlled passenger-side airbag cutoff switch. As for the Boxster, hopefully it had a airbag cutoff switch already installed. If the vehicle is parked, by law, an airbag cutoff switch indicator is required, so you should be able to see it when looking in the window. The Bimmer's is right on the dash I think, and my aftermarket switch is down by where an adult's right knee would be.
