Well, after about a month or so of trying the online listings, I've had a decent number of inquiries, but no serious ones...

It seems like a lot of people want the car, but as my neigbor said "A lot of them want it, they probably just can't afford it"...

My WRX will be here in about 2 weeks, so because I wasn't too aggressive in selling it, it will most likely go to the dealer as a trade in... Atleast I don't have to worry about people nit-picking over this and that... "Oh, its got a rock chip here, a pit in the headlight lens there".

What surprises me is that looking at eBay auctions, there were 2 S2000s that caught my eye. 1 was a rebuilt one with like 5500 miles and the bidding was up to 22000 with the reserve not met yet.

Another one was a red/black with 18200 miles (1000 less than mine) with a starting bid of 22000. Its up to 26000 and the reserve isn't met yet. I don't know what his reserve is, but its probably close to my selling price. Anyways, because of the hope of selling it online, I failed to place an autotrader print ad. I was going to do the 2 week special today, but the place closed at 4pm and I was at a group project meeting for school until 4, so I didn't make it. I've got class from 7-330 on Monday, and there is a 3pm deadline for getting the ad in Thursday's edition...

So, I've started driving it a lot more again... Going to miss it, so I'm making the most of the next 2 weeks. I'm guaranteed a trade in value, so as long as I have that in writing, the only reason to keep the miles off is for the next owner.

People also give you a wierd look when you are doing it.

I will sure miss the attention the car gets. Today, I was having lunch and 2 lowered Civics pulled up on either side of my car and were checking it out... Like someone on here said, this car really is the wet dream of a lot of modded Civic owners.

This car truly is a blast. I really am tempted to go out and get a beater, but the thought of having a beater that will cost some money in upkeep doesn't seem financially smart. I get a little help from my parents for school so that I can finish up. But, having 2 cars would certainly make them say "If you can afford 2 cars, you don't need our help finishing school".

Its really a shame too, because I really have come to love the car (its gotten better and better since I've owned it). The rear window is clear, the clutch is quiet, and the car just drives SO nice.

My biggest problem is just leaving it sitting where I catch the bus. Either that, or leaving it downtown on campus. I've really come to the conclusion that people don't give a $h*t about other people's cars. I saw 2 people who sucked at parallel parking today. They ended up bumping the car ahead of them. I cringe to think of leaving my S exposed to that sort of act... But leaving it at the park and ride isn't the best either, as the unscrupulous types that ride the public transportation worry me...

I guess in a nutshell, for those of you that take it out weekends and maybe leave it unattended somewhere for a few minutes... imagine that feeling for 8+ hours out of the day... its enough to make one crazy...

If you know anyone looking for a clean used S2000, send them my link...

its part of my signature tag...

I'm going to miss this car VERY much. But, with less than 2 years of school left, I figure that I'll keep the WRX as a daily driver (its going to depreciate like a brick). Maybe by then the S2000 will:

a) have a glass rear window
b) have blue (confirmed, right)
c) not be subject to a-hole dealers marking them over MSRP

Of course, I will still be a lurker here...

Its too bad I never got to take this car to the track... would have been awesome...

It may feel like you can't give it away, but you can.
Sad that you've to give it up. Best of luck anyways.

Get your school behind you; then worry about a really nice car. You got your whole life to acquire stuff, and a good education is your ticket to those goodies. Good luck!

Keep it and get a beater. You won't like leaving the WRX on campus or at home any more than the S2000.

Good beaters are to be had. It is unlikely that the maintenance on a beater will outpace the depreciation on the new WRX. You've already taken the major (first year) depreciation on the S2000.

Of course the best way to get a beater, is to buy it new nine years ago

There seems to be a softening in the market for S2000's. The local dealers are advertising 4-5 in stock and "Lowest Price Ever on S2000's". If you were able to buy one at the origional MSRP of $32,400 and had to pay sales tax as we do here in AZ (7%)plus other fees you were doing good to end up out the door with a price just shy of $35,000. The used value of a 2000 S2000 today in Arizona is about $28,000 - $30,000 or about a 20% hit in the first year. Only the future will tell what the follwing years will bring in depreciation.

If you're desperate, take it to Carmax. They'll give you a fairly decent price

Hey guys, thanks for the words

I was doing ok before making the decision to go back to school, and silly as it may seem to some, a lot of the desire is for personal fulfillment. I quit college after a few years of part time attendance, and suddenly in the last year or so, I've gotten motivated (and matured), so I took on the task of finishing up. I can be done in under 2 years, so that is actually VERY encouraging...

Barry, thanks for the advise. I guess I could wait 9 years and have the S2000 be a beater ...

Seriously, I think the WRX won't be a "special" car to me, but just a car. And in that respect, I won't worry about little things like parking under trees that are going to drip sap, etc. I've driven 2 WRXs on seperate occasions, and while its a fun and practical car, there is no magic like there is when you press the start button.

maybe buying the WRX new now will make it my beater in a few years It is going to be a silver wagon, so its an easy to maintain color. Of course, now I am forecasting that Suzuka Blue S2000 in a few years Maybe that will be a nice motivator to do really, really well in school

jschmidt,
No carmax in Oregon... doh!

lvs2k, matdj...
Right on! I'm just really impressed at myself for finally taking on the task, instead of having the parents hound me about it.

I would think of just keeping the S, the money you lose in selling it, and the depreciation of the WRX, (nice alternative though), you might come out even. 35k - 28k = 7k. 7k + 26k = 33k. Ok, 2k in the pocket, think about it...
