Default MY2000 FADED TAIL-LAMP JUSTICE!!! (A tad long but VERY helpful!)

As all of you faded people know ;-)(Ya bunch a' drunks!) getting Honduh to repair our faded Tail-lamps has not been easy. Well I got mine done and here is what might work for you, and it's legit. I just bought my 3rd, yes count em', 3rd S2K. I bought a super clean Silverstone MY2000 and it had the dreaded faded tail-lamp problem when I bought it off the lot. These lights were so faded they were a soft, light pink color turning white! This is needless to say a pure eye sore on a car like the S2K. At night I noticed it looked like my reverse lamps were on, at least to a laymen, because of the fading, you could see two ugly beady little white light bulbs, very ugly. Well as luck would have it, I was driving down the freeway when CHP pulls me over. Now at the time, I was driving the speed limit and I had a funny feeling what I was being pulled over for. Chippy get's out and say's "What did you do to those lights?" Long story short, he gave me a bunch of crap over those lights because he said that it was a safety hazard and they needed replacing. He even tried to blame me for it like I modded them or something! So I said, ok officer, thanks officer, F U officer!!!, not really but I wish! Guy was a total a$$ about it and let me go without a FIX-IT, guess he had some decency. Anyway, he did say that those lights needed to be RED and not PINK! So I went to the dealer and told them, "Hey, I got pulled over about these lights and they need fixing". My car has been out of Warranty for over a year, and I got the usual hmmmm and haaaaaaw. Well after thinking about it, I decided that Honduh should be the one's to pay for this, they sold a defective component and why should I have to pay for it? After a couple of No's I went straight to the General Manager of the dealership and demanded replacement. Guy was VERY cool and VERY understanding. Got both lights replaced with not one red cent from my pocket due to the fact that this was a safety issue.

Point is this, by law you are required to have RED tail-lamps, not faded junk! This is ILLEGAL and unsafe according to the CHP and other law enforcement agency's. These dealers don't replace your light's WARRANTY or NOT, you go to the GM. GM doesn't move, you call your local troubleshooter from your local news channel and have them come down to the dealership, then see how fast your lights get replaced. This is a BS matter to begin with and it needs attention ASAP. Anyone having this issue needs to get this fixed and not take anything but YES from the dealership for a full replacement at no cost.

Hope this helps some of you...

I'm going to sticky this for a few weeks, good info.

You may be able to have an easier time if you are actually ticketed or go to a state inspection facility and get a write up that the fading is illegal and then take that to Honda. When they fix it you could probably get out of the ticket by explaining and showing your service papers for the fix in court.

Great! I am so happy this info helps. Our cars mean a lot to us but what is more important is safety, like the cop said, tail-lamps are RED for a reason. Physcologically, when we see RED we know to take notice. If some drunk is driving behind you and see's your PINK tail-lamps from an inferior dye job on the plastic or whatever process they use, he may be thinking there PINK ELEPHANTS and slam into you. Not realistic, but you get the point. This is terrible that we should be shrugged off just to save Honduh a couple of bucks and put our safety and the safety of others at risk. I want to see this matter resolved to the point where any S2K owner can go into any dealership and get this done. Our damn light lenses should not be fading period, If anyone has this problem in the San Diego area, please contact me as I may be able to guide you to my dealership. I agree with the idea of getting the inspection. I say this, go to your local highway patrol and have a cop give you a FIX-IT and then take that sucker into the dealer and dare them not to fix it at 100% THEIR cost. This is a Honduh issue and flat refuse if they give you the "You pay half" crap. Please IM me if you have any questions and let's get a movement going!

Mine are also faded and the guy at the dealership here in Dallas said it would be no problem. They would replace them as soon as I get a chance to bring it in to have them look at it.

Which dealer? Had my left repaced due to fogging which is now fine. My right is the faded pink. Would like to get it replaced w/o a major to do with the dealer.

Thanks

I have this problem and an extended warranty and work at a Honda and Ford dealership and they told me they wouldn't replace my tails due to its not covered under warranty, I wonder if I should push harder on this issue, mine are in the pinky stage right now.
