Pretty limited compared to most production vehicles.
I remember originally it was going to be 5000 cars imported into the U.S. for each year 2000 and 2001.
Initial demand was so high, Honda increased the total to 6000 per year.
Now its been 4 years and there are no signs of slowing production down - especially with a new Japanese factory.
So, what was limited has lost out to the almighty buck - sales, sales, sales!
You still can't get mine away from me.

If I remember correctly, didn't Honda say that it's original plans (back in 1999) were to release the car as to 2000 model (to help celebrate their 50th anniversary) with a 4 year planned production run of about 20, 000 units per year? If this is the case, unit wise, it seems like they're pretty much on track.
Of course, I really don't mind if they extend production beyond (the planned) 4 years. Just gives me an opportunity to upgrade and/or replace, if/when mine wears out.

Be careful about confusing what dealers said and what Honda said. Honda never promised anything about the production run being only one or two years, yet there are still dealerships out there using the old "this is the last year they'll make them" line. When in Tokyo in '01, a group of us talked with one of the designers of the S2000 and we were told they'll make them as long as people buy them.
