Me and a Ferrari 328
Notice this is not "versus" a 328; I know better than that.
Other than my one moment of weakness last year when I taught an Integra a lesson I've refrained from contests or other displays of testosterone induced speed...until now. On my way home, usual ATL traffic; have to cut over and take the back roads and hope nobody else thought of it. Thankfully, no one else has and the nice twisty road looks clear; til a @#@#$%# Civic pulls out in front of me and proceeds to go SLOW. It's a no passing zone and I'm a law abiding citizen; besides this goof has to speed up to the speed limit at least. No luck, I'm crawling and contemplating breaking the law....when zoom...the 328 whizzes by. Cool, that settles it, the old girl feels naughty and I need to give her a spanking....VTEC past the clown and catch the pasta rocket. Now I'm just out for a drive and hoping the Ferrari realizes it and just lets me admire her ass while we hit the twisties. Awesome, seems like the Ferrari gets it and lets me hang, doesn't smoke me, so I follow...damn, I need to break the law more often. Cool breeze, the late afternoon sun, top down, and my 5-figure car is twisting with a 6-figure car...how much cooler can this get.
Intersection coming up, all good things must come to an end I guess; I have to turn left and the Italian Stallion keeps going but not before I see a raised arm out the window, a wave, and a thumbs up.
Sorry, not a kill story (I had no hope of doing that) but you have to relate all good stories involving your S and a cool car like a Ferrari. Much more satisfying that smoking a 20-something in an Integra.

ferrari 328 was never a six figure car....
you can get a good 308 for about 30k, and a 328 in the 60k range.
performance numbers for a stock s2k and 328 are similar, the cars just handle differently with front versus mid engine, high rpm torque versus v8 low end torque, etc.
from a standing start, you should be able to take him, especially since a clutch dump is not done by most due to the cost of replacement. top end is similar, but i think the 328 will get to it a little sooner. tight twisties you have the edge, cannot throw a 328 into switchbacks. long sweepers, i think it swings back to him.
regardless of what others say, i think the s2k is starts getting unstable above 145, the 328 feels planted at max speed and the only thing you feel you need is more speed....

<<high rpm torque versus v8 low end torque>>
Have you ever driven a Ferrari? I have driven both a 308 and a 328 and despite the fact that they are V8s, I would not say they have an abundance of low end torque. To the contrary, they tend to be very high strung and can be wound out to ~8K RPM. Ferrari tunes their engines in a similar fashion to the S2000, only on a grander scale.

Ferrari's are very much high-revving cars with a great powerband.
You should have "raced" with the 328. You would have held him easily. I've run a 348 and a 355 before in my NSX. The 348 couldn't keep up and I was hanging with the 355 on another instance going down the highway.
I imagine a 328 shouldn't be too hard for an S2k. And as mentioned, it never was a 6 figure car, but it is still a "pasta rocket"
Great story none-the-less!!

uhm, yeah... 308 for 2 years, 328 for 1, and now a 360 sitting in the garage. maybe your "driven" for what, 10 minutes? outweighs my ownership..... but i doubt it. and for further comparisons, there are several track events over the last couple years where i had many chances to observe the way multiple ferrari models compare on straights and turns against my s2k, both before and after supercharger was put on.
you have never seen a 328 owner talking about 7k clutch dumps to launch the car, have you?
lets not mistake an abundance of torque with more torque than the s2k....

I suppose we could've "raced" but I was in the moment and had to share the experience; two dudes, two cool cars, cool breezin' down the road (albeit, a bit faster than most)...I dunno...to me it felt more satisfying than racing.
Sort of like the difference between morning quickie sex (you leave wanting more) and the all-night, headboard thumping variety (you savor it for days afterward).
