Default Simple solution if your driver seat is not as comfortable as your passenger seat!

Swap them!

After 32K miles, my driver's side ass cushion has become extremely uncomfortable (and wrinkled and ugly...) while my passenger's side ass cushion has stayed perfect. You don't have to guess why ... I rarely have a passenger.

I have been thinking about buying a new ass cushion, or taking it to an apholstery shop to have more cushion added, but never got around to it. Tonight, I decided to see if the two cushions could be exchanged, which they can in less than an hour.

There are only 12 bolts, and 4 nuts that have to be removed using only a 12mm and 14mm socket, and 4 wire ties that have to be cut. It is too simple to do a step-by-step writeup.

NOTE: There is a wire harness under the driver's seat that needs to be disconnected before you remove the seat.

I don't need to guess - the imprint from your wrinkled ugly ass left its mark.

Good idea-- thanks. Plug for Kodokan's excellent seat locks!

I know someone that got some of the foam in their seats replaced under warranty because it was wearing out. I would try that before delaying the problem by switching pads.

A word to the wise. After discussing the details of the seat swap, Gernby has given me permission to add some information. This is not meant to stop people from trying this project, simply inform.

When I attempted the swap, I found some differences in the seat support. The pics below illustrate how an extra support bar is welded onto the seat pan. This bar goes on the OUTSIDE of the seat, next to the door. So, while siting in the driver's seat bar is on the left.
It appears to offer extra support against the stress of getting in and out of the car, and may protect the bolster from breaking down prematurely.

When you simply swap the entire bottom including the metal pan, the support bar will be moved to the inside of the car near the tranny tunnel. So, I decided to take the foam pad and leather off of the pan to try a swap without moving the pans. I found that the foam pad has a notch taken out of it to allow for the support bar, and the notch corresponds to the appropriate side. Switching just the foam and leather is not an option.

So be advised that the seat bottoms are not quite the same. Take this for what it is worth, and enjoy.

.....I really had fun with this project. Having a convertible makes pulling the seats a breeze. And how light are our seats? Maybe 20 pds - maybe. I was suprised. Sure was nice to vacuum areas that I otherwise can't get to.
