Attention NEW S2000 Owners! Some factoids offered by your Mid-Atlantic Community!!!
It dawned on me recently that a new Mid-Atlantic owner very well might not even know what to ask regarding new ownership of their S2000. As such, I offer this "sticky" thread for the top of the Mid-Atlantic forum.
I would invite all owners to offer tid-bits of advice to new S2000 owners. You know...things you wish you'd known when you first purchased the car...but only found out about [perhaps far too
] later. Let these posts be related to maintenance, repairs, fluids (fuel, oil, diff, etc.), and otherwise general care of your S2000.
Please note that I will "moderate" as necessary to keep posts on track. So do me the favor of not getting off-topic here
.
Thanks,
Dave

TSB's are "Technical Service Bulletins" from Honda of America. They ARE covered under your warranty, and ALL should be taken care of before the original 3 year/36,000 mile warranty is expired. Unfortunately, Honda does not send you a notice when there is a TSB on the car - they will only send you a notice for "Safety Recalls". A Honda dealer is instructed to only perform a TSB if you bring it to their attention or complain about something related to the TSB.
I'll try to keep these things posted as they pop up. So far I have only been paying attention to MY01 TSB's.
Here are a few just to start:
2000-2001 models: Striker latch - wears out prematurely - indications are excessive windnoise from the top not closing securely. Fix is hardtop strikers.
2000-2003 models: clutch adjustment TSB - this is supposed to help with the noise you hear when you take your foot off the gas. This is also the closest fix for the 2nd gear grind.
2000-2001 models: spark plug recall (this IS a safety recall). Some cars' sparks plugs would pop out after a hard acceleration. This will replace your spark plugs with the corrected ones.

Wow...a search on something else garnered the following link that is offered below. My thanks to turbo_pwr for having initiated the assembly of such an incredibly deep but seemingly on-going series of links to great information about our S2000s.

Some spring spacers used for shipping have not been removed by the dealer. Apparently this has happened frequently. I purchased my "S" with 2300 miles and found a set of spacers in the front right spring at about 5000 miles! Check this thread for pics...
Spring Spacers
Also the secret storage compartment to which the wind deflector is attached. It opens from inside the glove box. See your owners manual. It is easy to overlook and is a really handy storage area.

I have a simple Q. Where do I take this thing for service? I saw a thread rating the dealers service dept awhile ago but still couldnt figure out where is the best place to service this puppy in NoVa.

), this would have been nice to know before waiting to 30k to do as the manual states!
