Reposted due to me being half asleep when I tucked this into the "Under the Hood" forum.
Graphic intensive, but pics for the archives if for nothing else. After two years, it's finally coming together. I've got one page of mods done and 1/2 of another waiting to
be finished. When does this mod madness end?
No more F1 graphics...I did order two B'black wiper nozzles so it would better match the carbon fiber. Those tiny suckers cost me $45 for a pair! Still debating on whether to add the blue Sparco hood pins. It begins flexing a bit around 75mph. A few imperfections in the hood but I like that...my Craftsquare mirrors are the same. To me, carbon fiber looks more natural that way but I've never seen a Mugen hood up close so maybe imperfections are totally eliminated when you pay $1500 for a hood. The fit is about 95% right...just a bit of a rise on the passenger side, probably 1/8th of an inch. The driver's side fits flush. Still trying to figure out how to lower the passenger side so it is PERFECTLY level with the body. I'm told it's tough and that most of the hoods in this price-range won't fit absolutely perfect but this is close enough for me and I'm pretty anal. The gap is literally no larger than a Q-tip stem in height so it's not as bad as I'm making it out to be I guess. I dunno. We had a South Florida S2000 club group drive 1/2-way down to the 'Keys on Sunday and those I asked thought it looked great but if anyone has any hints on how to get that side level, hit me. I still like to tinker with things. FWIW, you can sort of see what I'm talking about with the front-on jpeg. I'm beginning to think the front latch mechanism might be adjusted a wee bit too far to the right which would sort of pull the hood a bit too aggressively towards the driver's side (which fits perfect) and that might raise the left side as a result but Bryan and I literally had to push it the latch all the way to the right to get the hood to secure naturally. I might try an adjustment there anyways, we'll see.
For newbies here who don't know already, Rota Wheels (16x7, 45 offset, 205/50/16 Toyo T1-S with 225/45/16 rear), APR mini-drag wing w/ carbon fiber plates, APR CF canards, Spugen lip (urethane on the way to replace this fiberglass one).
Anyways, here's the pics:
if it was my car...i would get rid of the wing and the canards
the wing appears to be large for the s and sorta sticks out , and the canards make the front end a bit busy
im sure you love everything, and i have been following your project from the begining
i always loved the j's hood , and it goes well with dark wheels
is that you in your avatar?
Russ,
nice hood. As far as fitment, you just have to play with it a bit. As I am sure you know, you can adjust the hood bumpstops (rubber pieces near the struts and towards the front) and another place the I overlooked was the base of the hood latches.... that helped me a little. I also had a little bit of gap, but believe it or not, the CF seemed to "settle" after a while and gap has since decreased. BTW, maybe its just me, but it does seem to decrease heat bog. congrats!
Russ, do they make the Amuse Style lip in CF? That might be an idea since you have the CF wing and hood now. Also the only thing that I seriously don't like is the APR stickers on the cannards, they just jump out at you too much in the pics.
Thanks for the comments fellas, both or
I learned two years ago that if you're going to post in this forum, you better have a
strong sense of self worth. People can be brutal. In this case, some interesting observations. Many who have seen the wing in person have actually commented that they thought it worked with the car's lines very nicely. I will admit that it's tough to photograph well because it always appears larger than it is. If you were standing next to the car, the profile of the wing is very slim which is why I bought it. I don't like the grocery cart style "EVO" wings...not on this type of car. I have a Spugen urethane lip on the way to replace this fiberglass one that cracked when I ran over a coconut (not a typo). I put some duct tape on the crack and painted over it with touch up suzuka and it looks pretty good from six feet away. I need a urethane down here because of all the dips in the parking lot for rain. There are some burger joints in south Florida I can't even pull into because the parking lot entrance is too steep. Any lips made of carbon fiber down here would be cracked within days.
The front inspection sticker will be removed by end of December since Florida has no inspections and my Vermont reg runs out on Dec. 31 so that will clean things up a bit.
I'm also thinking of getting new wheels for the car. I'd like to close the gap between the tires and wheel well just a tad bit more but stay with the black look so I'm probably going to get these wheels very soon. I like the fact that the spokes extend to the lip for a visually larger looking wheel than its 17-inch size. Fairly light as well, 17-lbs.
I also like the narrow and clean look of the spokes which would seem to work very well with the car's aggressive lines. This wheel has that Skyline GT-R vibe if you've ever seen those wheels. If not those, I am leaning on the flat black Sinko model from eegads! ADR.
I like the Mugen vibe of these and the fit is fine...right where I'm at now. I'm not a big fan of $1000 wheels (obviously). They look great but it's just one more thing for some car thief to take. As long as the general quality of the wheels I'm looking at are good and they fit proper, I have no problems using the money saved from passing on the gorgeous (albeit expensive) boutique wheels and using it for other mods. That's just my take...I generally love the way they look on other S2000's.
Next up...cleared lights, Hondata gasket, Spugen single Titanium, etc.
BTW Saud2K, that IS me in the photo. All 42-years worth. I decided I've posted enough avatars of import models, etc so at least for awhile, I'd give people a face behind the threads.
