I decided to avoid cutting into the trim or taking up boot space by mounting it under the passenger seat.
First job was to remove the boot trim so that I could re-locate the changer cable. On removing the trim I found that the old changer cable was there as well as a new cable, but had been soldered (presumably whilst in the car ) to try and get it to work with the non OEM changer. So I had two cables to remove - one following the original route under the centre console carpet, and one going under the dash and underneath the driver's kick plate. Why the 2nd cable had been routed here I do not know
Anyway, the cables were both relatively easy to remove, and the new cable was easy to install. I put all the slack cable behind the rear plastic panel and then dropped the cable down behind the passenger seat.
I then put a couple velcro strips on the bottom of the cd changer and just stuck it to the carpet. The changer now prevents the seat from moving fully forward but it can be removed in seconds if I need to move the seat for any reason (can't think of one at the moment ) .
It's an ideal install for anyone who doesn't want to start messing around with drills or cutting bits of their car, can be done in 30 minutes, and gives you plenty of boot space
