well had a interview in dallas today.. on my way back to houston.. 45 is closed due to flooding.. i'm stuck in huntsville.. all the hotels are booked.. so after 3 hours of trying to sleep in the stook i checked to see if i could find an alternate root.. i did.. took 190 to 59.. 12k miles on my s02's so i the backend would kick around whenever i hit a patch of water.. but other then that it they did better then i thought they would.

anyway i thought i'd try to make it back.. if theres any standing water i'd turn around.. after 200 miles.. in the last 10 miles there is no way to turn around.. standing water on all exits off 59.. there are cars in packs of 10 going the oppisite way against traffic to get out.. i get behind a big rig and follow him out.. everyone's going the wrong way down a on ramp to get to 1960.. finally i'm there.. can't really turn around.. but theirs standing water.. probably about 20ft long at about the bottom of the door level.. gunned it.. had 2 go through 2 patchs like that to get home..

i guess i'll know if theres any damage if the car starts running like crap..

John David got flooded last night coming into Houston. Really sucks, hope he doesn't mind me sharing his pain online.

Insomniak,

I'm glad you made it home okay. It seems that Rasputin and John David were not as lucky, but at least they are okay too..

your weather is looking pretty nasty!
hope you so texas folks are o.k.-
the entire region is flooded according to the news!!
as long as water does not enter the engine, my guess is that your car should be o.k. (i think that any electrical that could be impacted is above the air intake)...

nv - actually it wasn't really driving through standing water for Lips, its a park, where the water goes over the road about an inch, so it just gives you that impression.

Insomniak, for all that driving around you could have headed out to Austin you know. Glad the car is ok, just dont risk it again, a friend of mine ran my car through a flood back in Feb of 92 - my '87 3dr Accord LXI and flooded it, threw a rod, the rod shattered, and well...it was just bad bad bad. But insurance didn't question the motor, they just gave me the value of the car at the time because they had hundreds of flooded cars. Which of course, will happen again on Monday all over Houston - that is if phones and adjusters can get around to answering them.

I guess the import show was a failure. bad bad bad. I've seen the news - floating semi's, completely submerged semi's, 16-20' deep in some places. Yup, that's Houston.

Just talked to John David. He's going to post a lengthy thread (yes, with pictures for you vultures) about it when he gets back from Houston, but his car was one of the ones that was nearly submerged. John is one of the nicest people I know... I hurt for him!

Randy, yeah leaving huntsville and going to austin would of been the smart thing.. but how often do i do that. in fact that didn't even occure to me. i just thought i know i don't have a place to crash in dallas.. and the stook doesn't make a very good bed.

i feel really bad for john and joe.. i hope they have usaa or some good no bs insurance company.

i was wondering why this thread was locked before?? mods?

I almost drown my Stook a few months after I got it, the puddle turned out to be a lake...who knew? It looked benign enough, but by the time I entered it there was no turning back. It flooded my headlights, but the dealer replaced them under warranty (1,500 with the bezzles and bulbs).
