As many of you are aware we have a no politics policy. Now this is your forum and your club and while technically you fall under that policy it is a bit of a gray area. I have no regulatory objection to you discussing these topics however I would like to offer my $0.02 and perhaps a warning about the can of worms this opens up.

This forum seems, and perhaps currently is, a far off corner of private bliss but be aware that not only do the posts in this forum get indexed by the S2KI search engine, show up on the todays active list and get new posts lists they are also indexed by Google, Yahoo, Lycos and just about every other search engine on the net.

Let me offer a couple of examples of the possible consequences:

1) The number 1 search term used to access S2KI is "paris hilton video". Why? Because it was discussed in a thread or two in Off Topic. Google scooped that up and now when people search on that term they get s2ki (admittedly not first but we're in there). I have probably just made it worse.

2) There was a joke thread posted in S2000 Talk about someone installing a NOS system by drilling a hole in their valve cover and injecting it into the engine head. Yes it was a joke but it circulated around the internet like wild fire (you may have noticed the # of users online peak well over 1100 the past few days).

There is the potential for this to happen to any thread in any forum or for both of these situations to arise. If it does happen your niche of nirvana could well be trampled by a horde of barbarians.

I offer this advice without charge and thus you may find it worth about the same. I leave it to you.

Cheers,
Erik

Thanks for the advice and your point is taken. It is an unfortunate situation though, because this is a forum where topics have been discussed openly, intelligently, (for the most part) without any personal attacks nor bruised egos. It great to get into a heated debate. You either strengthen your own beliefs because you have to justify them or you change them due to another person's argument. Nice that there is a place in the community where you can from Off-Topic jokes to mature, intelligent conversations.... I hope it isn't lost.

I don't know how you are setup having never read all the things on here but I would assume you have a media disclaimer published on the site. It's a pretty standard disclaime all the talk shows etc use it. If you don't have one on here and are concerned, I would recomend you do so.

"the mgmt and staff of S2ki or whatever your corp and aka are are not responsible for the opinions expressed by our members and guests." There should probably be a use at your own risk clause as well when it relates to technical or repair data given by any of your staff moderators or sponsors.

You probably already have all this in here and a nice umbrella liability policy to go along with it.

have a good day

I'm relieved. I thought you were going to say the CIA and FBI were watching

Good advice!

Rob and I got an email from a member the other day about a political thread...saying it was not allowed basically. I went to the regulations about the site to see what they said and there was no mention of these types of threads. I knew it was discouraged (somewhere) but Rob and I made a conscious decision to let it go, precisely because we like to encourage intelligent and civil discussion in Vintage. But your point is well taken, Erik. What do the rest of you members think about allowing the political/religious/other controversial threads to continue? I err on the side of a more open rather than a more restrictive stance.

I think we should go back to talking about breasts. Oh crap, that probably put us higher on the Paris Hil&%) search engine results.
