So, I decided to come up with a goofy name for this meet - MarchMeltdown
WHAT: Meet->Eat->DRIVE!
After this cold and frozen winter, our cars are gonna need to be primed for what will hopefully be a spring/summer/fall packed with group drives. After meeting and eating, we will tackle some nice roads in the Central Virginia mountains, and end up with a leisurely cruise on part of the Blue Ridge Parkway. I am hoping to make a few additions to the course we drove back in November, but more on that later.
WHEN: Sunday March 28, 2004 11:00 am
Meeting at 11, eating at noon and hopefully starting the drive between 1 and 1:30 - the first leg of the drive should be about 2 hours and the second maybe another hour.
WHERE: Rockfish Valley Ruritan Park- Route 151 in Nelson County, VA near Wintergreen/Nellysford (approx 30 min SW of Charlottesville)
To get to the Rockfish Valley Ruritan Park/Pavilion (from the north and east):
Take I-64 West from Charlottesville to exit 107 (Route 250)
Take 250 West (follow signs to Ski Area)
After about 5 miles, turn left on Route 151 South (follow signs to Ski Area)
Continue for 8.5 miles, and the park will be on the right.
The street you turn on to enter the park is Rockfish School Lane (not in Mapquest) and is across from a truck "weigh-in" that is now closed.
******************
for those coming from the east on Route 6
-when you get to the T intersection for Route 151, turn RIGHT and go 0.4 miles
-turn LEFT on Rockfish School Lane, across from a truck "weigh-in" that is now closed.
******************
There is a covered shelter and a fenced-in rink in a field where we will meet/eat. Scroll down to see a map.
FOOD!
Food will be catered by the Blue Ridge Pig. We will pick the food up around 11:45 and bring it to the shelter. You will need to PM me your choice of sandwich(es) BY 5pm THURSDAY MARCH 25 so I can place the final order. We will have family-style sides of baked beans, potato salad and cole slaw. Canned sodas and bottled water will also be available. The base cost is $10 per person (covers one sandwich, sides, drink and tax). Extra sandwiches are $3.50 each. Sandwich choices include:
Pork BBQ
Chicken BBQ
Turkey Croissant
Veggie Croissant
When placing the order, I will request that all sandwiches be free of condiments and/or slaw - we will have those on the side. Again, please PM me with your (and your +1) choice(s). I will be collecting the money as you arrive.
Check back here for developments in the plan. In hopes of keeping this thread focused and short please PM me your intentions to come.

A note about the driving - While this isn't going to be a "Sunday afternoon drive," it isn't going to be a time-trial either. The scenery on this drive is nice, so I intend to go at a pace where we can enjoy our cars and the scenery. Just thought I would clear that up in case it affects anyone's decision-making.
MAP
Here is my attempt to scan and piece together a map of the area with the location of the park highlighted with a yellow blob (I would have used Mapquest, but the lack of detail at a wide range made it useless).
Charlottesville is just off of the upper right corner of the map. There is a section where Rt. 151 and Rt. 6 are coincident with one another....the park is on Rt. 151 just NORTH of where Rt. 6 splits off towards the east.
For those of you coming from afar, you have a few options for overnight accomodations:
-hotels in Charlottesville and Waynesboro (I can suggest if you need, just PM me)
-inns/B&Bs near Nellysford and Wintergreen (again, PM me for details)
Hey everyone, I just wanted to let you know in advance that there is a bike (bicycle, that is) race in Charlottesville on that day which starts at 10am and will be going on until 3pm. So, because of that I will be in Charlottesville in my other car, and I'll be closer to puking my guts out trying yet again to pull off a "W" instead of chillin' at the meet - hmmm it IS the first race of the season, so maybe I'll just be puking!!!
The race route uses these roads - 627, 727, and 708, and you will probably see plenty of police escorts and people working the intersections trying to keep the race safe for everyone. I don't know the area at all or if the race will even impact the meet, but I just wanted to give a heads up just in case!!!
Thanks,
Steve
Hmmmm...is Steve's point a good one or a bad one? Bikers travelling certain roads miiiiiiiiiiight just keep the cops attentive to thooooose roads . Rodney...betcha can work with that information! .
Juuuuuuust j/k. I know we'll be good boys & girls during our jaunt
PMed you, but the disadvantage of doing only that is that the thread does not show up on my S2000 page unless I've posted to it, so I don't see updates.
Also, did you post at the end of the other thread pointing to this one? If not, that would help.
Edit: Never mind...it was locked before you did that.
