Default What should I look for when test driving an used S2000?

Whoo hoo! I just got off the phone with the bank and I got approved on an used car loan at 4% APR.

I'm going to look at a Silver MY00 S2000 with 2k miles on it. The owner is asking $23,000 for it. I know the milage is low but having a car sitting in the garage for 3-4 years probably collected dust on them =)

Besides the dust, what should I look for or listen to when I test drive the car? After reading the forums I now know to check the cigerette lighter to see if it's loose.

Thanks!

So beware is the car is still wet from being washed, sometimes that'll hide scratches etc....
Make sure you check out the seats, look closely for any cuts, etc....
Ask him why he is selling? Does it make sense? Ask him why he liked the car
It'll tell you what kind of owner he is. Is he someone who would baby it or beat the hell out of it.
CARFAX...CARFAX...CARFAX....don't take the risk of a bad odometer or salvage title.
Check the tires look at tread wear.
Check the rims see if they are bent.
Check bulbs just to make sure they are working.
Look down the sides of the car really close to look for non-obvious dents.
Ask when he changed the oil...don't care if it's 2K miles he should have changed it recently.
Lots of little things. Pay attention to how the clutch feels.
It doesn't hurt to have a mechanic look at the car before you buy. Yeah it may cost 50-60 bucks but it can be worth knowing if there are any problems.

Yes I am a bit anal about it but when you are making a 23,000 investment it pays to take your time

look for soft top troubles. Cuts, worn out spots. Oh yea, make sure the top goes all the way down, sometimes the elastic band wears out leaving the top, in down position, 1-2inch higher, maybe you can use this to get him to lower price a little more : ) . <--- if that is the case, dont worry its real easy to fix

I wonder if the oil has even been changed yet.
