I was checking my brakes the other day and noticed that it was rusted all over. Pretty nasty looking. What do you clean it with to remove the rust on the calipers and rotors?

 

Wire brush on the caliper should get it off.

I wouldnt use anything on the calipers, just take it for a drive.... that should take car of the calipers.... assuming its just surface rust.

 

always happens after i wash my car. once you brake when you are driving the car it will go away.

Yeah that rust sux! Whats up with that! Isn't there some zinc coating that can be put on those rotors!

 

I sanded and used the metal brush to take out the rust and sprayed it with hi temp bbq paint. It has lasted for 3 moths already and makes the rotor look awesome. It was a B*tch to do.

Has anyone tried using Ospho and a small brush and brush the Ospho lightly around the edge of the rotor while wiping any excess off the face of the rotor?

Ospho is a rust converter used on rusted metal surfaces before painting, allow to dry for 24 hrs and it should turn the rust back to black. You can find it anywhere you find paint. I have not tryed this myself on the rotor but have wondered if it would work. If not, it should not effect anything IMO.

 

I have used Ospho on several rusted parts on my 4 runner and the stuff is awesome! I am going to try it on my rotors next weekend!
