Default Just dropped S2K at Herb Chambers in Boston, MA [TSB 54/55 Fax enclosed]

The shop foreman road tested it and was not familiar with either of the problems. The service guy said they never get those cars in the shop, which worried me. But then they both agreed they would keep the car and "call the engineers in California". So I'm hoping they find out about TSB 54 and 55 I think they were(?)...

Did anyone buy/have your car serviced at Herb Chambers? They are supposed to be a top service Honda dealer or whatever they call them... I will let you know what they say.

Hi Bernie,

I have been bringing my car to High Priced Herb for service since October 99. So far so good.

They installed my side strakes and have done 4 oil changes. The only blemish was once the oil filler cap was not tightened and popped off. I find they spend a lot of time on the car and have been quite careful.

They have one tech I believe who has 27 years experieince with them.

Please let us know how things go.

OT

I work in Cambridge over in One Kendall Square.

Thanks for the response. Are you having those noises in your car?

If you don't mind my asking, how did you do on the price from High Priced Herb?

I'm over here in Southie at the Fargo building right next to the Ted Williams tunnel. BIG DIG = rough ride for StooK

I probably have some deceleration noise. It does not bother me so I have left it alone.

Could you describe what noises your car was making?

I did not buy the car from Herb. Back then, they wanted $45K for a loaded one.

Mine came form Fox Honda in Auburn New York. I got MSRP plus the the cost of stuff I wanted. I did pay $600 to have the car flat bedded to my house.

I bought an oil card from Herb so I pay under $14 per change.

1. When you take off nice and easy, but with too much clutch and not enough gas, there is a terrible rattle noise under the hood it sounds like, left front. If it was a 92 Jetta I would say it was a heat shield. That's what it sounds like.

2. The decellerating noise happens in 2nd, 3rd, 4th gears over 30 MPH with your foot off the gas. Like a whining, whirring noise.

3. The window rubber seals are not secure on the A pillars. They pop out of the channels that they ride in. Worse on the pass side than the driver.

They were going to "call the engineers in Cali" as I said, so it should be interesting.

Nimbus,

I am no big fan of Herb but they are close to my house.

I was miffed on the filler cap thing but at the end of the day it was not a big deal.

You do not get the same tech each time. The strakes were installed by the fellow with the long experience. Let us not make faces about someone who has been caring for Hondas for so long.

For my previous Hondas I used the local independent Honda shops. With the low numbers of these cars on the road, the dealers have the most experience.

For the seatbelt recall I may go to Bernardi.

The sales end of Herb's is where I avoid. They get what the market will bear. With the evidence being the new 3 story tower to BMW they rehabbed next door.

I meant to ask, Nimbus, why not a fan of Herb?

We got the StooK for MSRP, so I think we did okay, and they went way up on the trade in to meet our price. Overall, the sale was great.

I was checking stickers at Herb today on used BMW's and they were a little insane. They had a 98 323, no traction, no winter package, auto, with 39K, for $29,995. That seemed a little rediculous to me since I was about to buy a loaded 94 325iC with 25K for $20k.

I think the whinning noise is probably normal. I get it too, but I am sure it's just the gears of the LSD. Actually on mine, it sounds like a jet engine winding down... On acceleration, it sounds like jet engine spooling up. But the sound is very very faint... you'd have to turn of the radio and listen for it.

While I will buy my cars from HC Honda (because I know a salesperson there), I will try to not bring the cars there for service - they mess up too many times.
