Default Top Speed in reverse settled - GPS style!

Well as you may know, Scot and I have a thing for doing things backwards. I recently purchased a Garman Street Pilot Pro III for my stook and have been running around with it for a cpl a weeks now. Works great and seems to be very accurate for speed reading (I have deduced that our speedometers are ~2.75% off on the conservative side (i.e. - an indicated 80MPH is really 77.8MPH)). So last night, I was sitting around with some time on my hands (see: http://www.s2000online.com/forums/showthre...?threadid=19048 for the reason why) and plenty of open road. It occured to me that the speedo is probably wrong in reverse as well!! So I resest the trip computer on the Garman so it will hold the Max Speed and set out to do a little test.

Where we were waiting was a three lane feeder road with very little traffic. I get out there and punch it in reverse. I hit V-TEC and keep going all the way to redline. Bounce off the limiter a little bit so I eased off the gas. Bounced off the limiter a second time and then shut her down. (BTW: stopping is the hardest part!) Get back into the parking lot and check the Garman. Top speed for a MY 2001 S2000 in reverse is 46.7 MPH!

I did have the top down. I am curious to see if the top being up would make a difference. Oh well, looks like more experimentation is needed!!

If you were hitting the rev limiter and the wheels weren't spinning I doubt having the top up will make a difference.

Except you'll be looking through a small cloudy plastic window with seriously limited peripheral vision. Sounds like a good idea!

hmmmm, aerodynamics in reverse, this should be interesting. after all, how the car is designed, it generates lift as it is, but in reverse...ahh, might be onto something here.

what is next? a "reverse racing series"?

Ummmm...you do realize I was being sarcastic, right? Hence the little guy. Thanks for your concern, though.

It brough smile's to everyone's faces, and ended the unfortunate evening on a laugh.

how worn out are your rear tires? Since I have new ones, I bet I am *still* faster....

how well has that thing worked forward...like...at an indicated 155mph or so???
