Adding oil during break-in? Just use 10w-30?
Running break in oil on my 2004 with 3,500 miles. Looks like I have to add oil some oil because I am down to one X on the dip stick. Can I just go ahead and add 10w-30 to top her off, or do I need to get break in oil from the dealer to top off at this point?
Thanks

Ended up going with Mobil 1 non-synthetic because it was close. Finding the Castrol requires more driving around than I want to do with just one X worth of oil in the engine. Going to have it changed around 4k miles because I drive in severe conditions according to the manual (5-10 miles city driving, at a time, dusty salty winter roads and below freezing temps). At that time will have to make the decision between Mobil and Castrol; thats non-synthetic from looking at past posts does not look like I should use synthetic until I have hit the 10k mile mark.

I would add a bottle of MaxLife Engine Protector - it has high moly, zinc, and phosphorous, which you won't find in the SL-rated oils. It is as close to a break-in oil as i have found. I changed my oil at 850 miles and went with a quality mineral oil with the MLEP additive. That way i figure I get rid of any residue from mfr'g out of the engine, while providing it with plenty of break-in protection.
