Default Just go my new 04 s2k, having trouble with top

Just picked up my S2k couple days ago. Having fun driving around.

However, I have trouble putting the top all the way down. My dealer said it's cause it's new and needs to break in. It seems to stick up too much. Are there any solutions?

Thanks in advance

Depending on the temps, it might just be cold and not as plyable. It seems to happen fairly often in the cooler months.

However, if you are having problems while it is in the sun and warm temps (50+??) it might be and issue with one of the bows. Certainly something to have checked out.

BTW, welcome to the site and congrats on the purchase . Also be sure to enter your vin# and car info

The top usually doesn't fold down ALL the way when there is moisture in the softtop material (i.e. cool, foggy nights, etc. especially there in Michigan). I usually just fold it up and try again, and while it's going down, the natural folds in the hardtop should be further assisted by you, if that seems to make sense.

Thanks for the advice. Here is a pic of how far it goes down.

It's been in 40s lately. Also, tried to make top go up and down with out much luck in getting it lower...

I had the exact same problem last week after purchasing my MY04. I had just cycled it up and down about 3 times and then it fold down the way it should.. At first I was thinking boy what a bad design, I could hardly look out the rear view mirror, and it's going to be very difficult getting that boot on

Nice interior.

Ya definately, mine will do the same, only on really cold nights that have a higher humidity level. I think the moisture gets stuck in the softtop material, and prevents it from going down. You can also push down manually and it'll help, but when it's like that and you drive around, the bumps in the road help it down once in a while too.

Just make sure when it's going down that you manually help the natural creases and it should go down all the way.

If the material is still very new, and very stiff, you may need to 'train it' to fold where it needs to.

The dealer said it's because it's new? Ah, dealers crack me up. A convertible top should work properly from day one.

Most likely it's the cold temps that could cause the problem. However, when I picked up my car in Mid-January it was about 20 degrees. As soon as I got home I dropped the top to make sure it was working properly, and it went all the way down without a problem. If your problem continues, take it back and have the dealer check it out.

What I would do is just hop in the car and drive south until it gets to be about 70 degrees. That way you'll know if the temps were the issue, plus you'll be past the break in period.

Welcome to the board and good luck with your car!
