First ticket in S2000
What is up fellow Sacramento/Stockton area S2k'ers. Well, it finally happened to me today. After 10 months of owning my S2000, I got my first ticket today. I was driving around speed limit on 99 heading southbound towards Stockton from Sacramento.
I was minding my own business going about 70 mph on the left lane. I see a couple of cars behind me and in front of me, no big deal. Anyways, as I approached Arno Road, I see the Camaro behind me switch to the right lane. He was a little back of me. I then see a black car speed up rapidly. As i realized it was a CHP car, i slowly switched over to the right to let him pass me.
But instead of passing me, he pulls behind me and flashes his lights. It was around 1:20 pm. So i pull over nice and easy, and was very polite to the officer. I had my registration, ID, everything ready. So he goes on to tell me that the reason i was pulled over was because he was pacing me at 75 mph for about .5 miles to 1 mile??? I was in complete awe. I didnt really know what to say, so i didnt say anyhting. He then goes to take a look in the front of my S2000. Since i dont have a front license plate, he nails me for that too.
So he tickets me for going 75 in a 65, plus the license plate deal. What do you guys think? Any suggestions for court? Also, what can I do about the license plate deal? I dont really want to have a license plate in front cause it ruins the clean lines of the S2000. But I also dont want to have to pay a hefty fine. Thanks all for listening, Ruined my day.
On a good note, i hit 30,000 miles before being pulled over.

plate = easy....just put one on show it to the cop, he signs the ticket....take plate off $10 fix-it.
THe speeding ticket....well you have a couple of choices...traffic school(once every 18months....) lets you get rid of the ticket, it won't go on your record....
If you try to fight it in court I believe you lose the option of traffic school.....

If you fight it, you wont lose your right to traffic school. Everyone has the right to their day in court. I have written tickets many times (Not speeding) hehehe. Most Judges and Pro Tems are looking for ways to dismiss tickets. You will have to pay the fine but you will get the traffic school if you want it. Plus CHP is notorious for missing court. You may luck out and have that guy not show up and then they dismiss the case. Good Luck.
Thanks for the responses thus far. Im just doing a little research on my own about the whole "pacing" thing. I mean, I saw the CHP officer come up due to the fact a Camaro switched lanes. When i saw this, I also changed to the right lane. But somehow i get tagged. My thought is, in order for the officer to close the gap between us, assuming i was goign "75", he had to be driving at least 80-85+ in order to make up the difference.
Unless i was going slower, and he was going at his "75mph" pace in order to close the distance between us so that he could pull me over. I pick the latter argument hehe. Well i just needed to get that off my chest.
Thanks all.

Hey CoAster,
Glenn is fighting a speeding ticket right now as well, what he has done is, when you get your courtesy notice in the mail you reply to it with full payment for the fine plus the amount for traffic school, you request a trial by written declaration. This way everything is done by mail if accepted, you then have to right up a letter stating your side of the story. In return the officer has to do the same, and that is something these days the officer's do not want to do. because they do not get paid overtime for this. I'm not sure if you guys are aware of this but now days the officers get paid 4 hours of overtime each time they go into court, so now they are more willing to show. Just a thought, as for the written declaration its the same as court but all in writing. and if you lose you still get the opportunity to go to traffic school. If you win they refund the money to you.
Will keep you posted we mailed the request yesterday Certified Mail.

I was visiting another city in another state on the weekend and got a parking ticket. I was clear as a summer day in a legal parking spot. So I just disregarded the ticket and went on my way.
That was ... four months ago. Haven't heard anything about it since. Should I call their office and see what I should do, or just forget it and go on? Claim ignorance if it ever arrises? "Ticket? What? I don't know what you're talking about." (:
