VGS Steering Wheel and JDM key - Japan Speaks!
I heard back from Takusari-san a little while ago re: the VGS wheel and the JDM key. He supplied me with images of what needs to happen to get the VGS wheel on the USDM cars. He is a LITTLE more hopeful than before, but still isn't that confident that it will work. Here's is his email, please note the parts numbers, etc...judge for yourselves.
Here is a snip of his email...

Here is the copy of latest S2K parts list(about VGS steering wheel and related parts).
on fig-1, it shows steering wheels and related parts.
According to this parts list, the "grip cmponent" is only the big differrence between two types.
So you only need this component to swap on the steering wheel itself.
parts number is as follows,
78501-S2A-S71ZA (up to 1100049)
78501-S2A-S72ZA (1100050 and on)

The part # for the key is not valid for US. I have asked my local dealership about it. I thought as least they know where they can order it from Honda Japan. Guess not? Anybody has any clue where to get it and works in our car?
Judging by the drawings he provided, it looks like the VGS wheel is a straight replacement for the stock wheel. It fits on the column the same way with the same hardware, so I don't see how a steering column mod will be necessary. The mod may be necessary for VGS steering, but not the wheel itself.

I tend to agree with Brad on this one. It's quite a handsome wheel, but if it ain't VGS, it ain't VGS. Case closed...
Moreover, our contact over there is a highly capable person as it relates to the S2000. He blew me away with the level of detail about how there will likely be fitment problems. So I'm taking his word on this...
It's not going to be easy...not just for the reasons that were mentioned in other threads, Honda just doesn't want this replacement to work easily to prevent nasty highway accidents, lawsuits, etc...
Our friend in Tokyo will get back to us with more detail than you can possibly imagine, he's amazing.
Yea, it's a little silly to me, but hey, whatever melts your butter...no big whoop.

Putting a VGS wheel on a regular S2000 is just about as silly as putting a Type R sticker on a Civic over here (although I did see a real one of those last weekend).
