Default WLaurent Box / 10" SUb? Anyone done this?

After a few promising PM's I thought I'd poll the group and see if anyone has put a 10" sub into one of these boxes. There aren't many out there that will work in an enclosure that size, but joy of joys, the Adire Brahma 10" does, and that thing kicks some wicked bass.

So lets hear it. Anyone BTDT?

i remember seeing a pic of one a long time ago... (over 2 years)

i have no clue how i'd find it now. you could search, but i don't think you'd get much since the search won't take less than 3 letters/numbers

i'd be concerned about both depth (i'm guessing you checked this), required enclosure size after displacement, and whether the sub face will fit w/o touching off on the trunk hinge.

The prob on this one is the mounting depth - 6.5"

This is a fully 1.5" more than the e8a - which is a tight fit.

I am pretty sure I could make something work but I would need the sub in my hands in order to try it out.

Plus the displacement of the sub is 0.11 ft^3. This means the 0.38 ft^3 is now 0.27 (probably will be around 0.3ft^3 once MDF is added to the front of the enclosure)

If you get a chance, check the Mobile Entertainment of Aug?Sep 2003. The testers calculations indicate that in a 0.2 cuft box would yeild a flat freq. response down to 10HZ. Of course the problem with that is that the power required to drive this sub in an enclosure that small is pretty high. Adire recommends .35 cu.ft. on the low side.

The mounting depth could be mitigated somewhat by using an angled face, or notching the back face of the cabinet to accomodate the magnet, or other methods.

It appears that this may be a "square peg/round hole" issue that is not with fighting, which is why I was wondering if anyone had done it. I may well go with the eD sub in the end. Right now, I'm just gathering info.

Thanks all.

while this really is Williams baby, the problem i see is partly that the face of the enclosure is right up against the trunk hinge, and that the back can't be notched b/c it's moulded to fit exactly in the side well, and there's no where for a notch to go... (if you know what i mean)

it'd be a cool thing if you could pull it off -- but i'm guessing it would be tight. i once saw someone get a 10" in that zone, but it was setup to where the hinge worked around the enclosure, which was extended a bit out from where William's ends... i'd have to hunt it up and find it... but someone has done it.

I would like to install 10" Audiobahn AW 1000Q subs into your custom enclosures.

The subs have a mounting depth of 5" and require only 0.25 cu.ft. of free space in the enclosure.

If it's possible, I'd like to order the sub boxes ASAP.

Not sure it will work due to the diameter of the voice coil at the 5" depth

Perhaps a AW100T - still 5" depth but not as big of VC at depth

I have tried a few different audiobahn subs and they sound nice - never mounted one of their 10's in the enclosure though.

As with all first time builds - I would need the subs sent to me for fitment.
Okay.

I'd like to try putting 1 Audiobahn AW100T into one of your sub enclosures.

If one side is slighly larger than the other, I would prefer to use the larger one. If there is any other consideration to be made when choosing which side for the install, please let me know.

The AW1000N (new version of the AW1000Q) is the only 600W RMS speaker that meets the subwoofer enclosure criteria.

I have a design that will increase the WLaurent speaker enclosure volume from 0.38 cu.ft. to 0.56 cu.ft. The speaker takes up 0.15 cu.ft., so the remaining free space will be 0.41 cu.ft. The speaker requirement is 0.25-0.75 cu.ft.

I won't know exactly how much I can increase the volume until I get the enclosure and the subwoofer, and take measurements.

Mounting depth isn't an issue. The speaker mounting depth is only 5" and there will be plenty of room after my modification.

I've decided to try the driver's side enclosure.
