Default Air Condition @ Home Help!!!!!! Asap!!!!!!!!

Okay, do any of you guys know anything about A/C? and how it works?..

Well, i have a little problem at home with my A/C.

It tents to freeze up alot while the i set the temperture at 74 degrees. If i let it run for over night on "auto" during sometime of the night period it will freeze up.

I have to set it to 75degrees to allow it to run normal..

I mean...A/C's are able to go lower then that temperture right?....What's wrong with it?....

What do i need to do?...Do i have to clean something?...or replace something?...HELP THANKS

You could have one or several problems. Follow this;

1. Make sure your filter is clean, a dirty filter blocks air flow which causes a coil to freeze up.

2. If the filter is clean, remove it and look at the evaporator coil. Is it covered with dirt? Turn the system off and keep it off (24 hours) till the coil is dry, than GENTLY wet vac it with a brush attachment. Once this is done, go to home depot and get "Coil cleaner" . Spray on coil, than gently hose off. The dirt should fall into the drain pan. If your uncomfortable with this. Call an AC contractor and they will clean the coil for about $250.00

3. If Items one and two are good, than you may have a leak in your system causing loss of refrigerant. This will cause your coil to freeze up. Sometimes your system wil just get low, nothing a good recharge from a contractor cant take care of. However, if there is a leak in the lines, a good contractor can find it and fix it. If it's in the equipment, he can find that too, but it could be harder to fix.

Good Luck!

It's probably the coil, like Hunter says. I'm not sure if your Gas/electric company offers this service, but by me it's like $100-200 a year and they come out 2-3x a year to maintain your system so things don't get dirty and leaks don't occur. Just a thought.
