Default I'd like to hear from a few S2000 owners who.....

have had no problems with their cars and who use them as their daily driver. I am contemplating the purchase of an S2000, and am curious how the car will hold up as my primary means of transportation. I've been searching the forum archives, and have observed a few problems people seem to be having (premature clutch wear, various engine problems, rear window, etc). I garage my car, tend to be pretty anal about maintenence, and am not planning on driving it like a bat out of hell (whether it can take it or not is beside the point!). I guess what I'm asking is will the car give me typical Honda service if I look after it?

Thanks for your input!

I have had my S2000 for almost 10 months and have driven it to work every day. However, my commute is only 3 1/2 miles each way, in very light traffic. I also enjoy some very spirited driving in the mountains every chance I get (about twice a month in the summer).

I have had absolutely no problems with the car. Just don't try to drive in ice or snow with the stock tires. If you have driven rear wheel drive cars before, you should have no problems...just SLOW DOWN on wet roads!

The S is a fun little car, and I expect to keep mine for a long time to come. However, another car in the family is nice for longer trips, especially if you have a wife like mine...she thinks she has to pack all her "stuff" every time we go away for a few days.

I've had my '01 S2000 since February. Current mileage is at 3,300. This is my third Honda vehicle and it has performed up to expectations. This is my daily driver and I haven't had any problems, mechanically or otherwise. Would highly recommend it as long as you realize it's a sports car and has a bit harsher ride than most cars. I don't have a problems with it and actually like this about the car. I love the feeling it give you of being so connected to the road. Absolutely no regrets.

Mike-
I've been using my car as a daily driver since late September of '99 and currently have a little over 41K miles. Most of that is made up of stop & go DC Beltway traffic hell.

I did have to replace my clutch at 30K miles, but can attribute that to my multiple trips to the drag strip and 6500RPM launches. My dealer replaced the disk and throw out bearing at no charge. I kicked in the uprated pressure plate. Stay away from the drag strip and you'll get a lot more mileage out of it.

Other than that I did have my MAP sensor go bad (as have many others). Easy to diagnose and a five minute fix.

Other than that no problems. Sure the plastic rear window is a bit scratched. That plastic well combined with the plastic window will do it all the time. There is a vendor here with a well mat to alleviate the problem.

The car is great on the street, it's great at the track. All in all I'm as happy as the day I picked it up.

Have had mine since Oct/00. Daily driver. Been through 1 Canadian Winter, no probs. This is my main transportation unless I need to carry stuff or people, then I trade with my wife. Her's is a Caravan and I only use it about once every couple of months. This car goes everywhere I go. No problems whatsoever as yet. Got almost 10,000 km. I don't drive the crap out of it, only the occasional romp up through the gears, some high spirited passing on the hiway. I don't turn even near max lateral g's on a regular basis. This is just the way I expected a Honda to be (had a civic once). I do all my own maintenance. At best, a dealer will return your car to you having done the job required. At worst the dealer will return your car to you a far, far lesser car than the one you took in. This car is happy with me and I'm happy with it.

I've had the car for 4 months now, and all I have had are problems!!!! My insurance went up!! I get all the guys in their fart tipped CRX trying to race, and I have been threatened by my girlfriend that if she sees another woman in it, she will key it. But other than that, I haven't had a single problem with it. I use it as my daily driver, and have taken it Autocrossing a few times. This car is awesome. If you do get it, enjoy it!!!!

Daily driver for me since June '00, got 10,600 miles now. Other than having to replace the S02's once (this last week- and that is of course my driving-YEA!) no problems whatsoever. The car is the best damn thing I've ever owned! 7th Honda- waited for this one for years.... Buy it- it'll change your life.

21,500 miles and no real problems to speak of... just a slight whine from the transmission when de-accelerating (that is now not heard due to HKS exhaust).

My car does have a gazillion paint and windshield chips, but i guess that is life.
