Default 04 no more clutch delay valve!

Hey guys,

just FYI, the 00-03 Clutch Slave Cylinder (~$51) is just barely above a drop in replacement. I just swapped mine out with the intention of getting rid of the stupid clutch delay valve that made me 2-3 and 3-4 shifts slip a bit.

The lone rubber hose is long and flexible enough to make the connection to the 00-03 spot, it just needs to have the locator pin cut off by about 1/2".

This is the 04's clutch system. 10 is the slave cylinder assembly (with bleeder valve). You can see that hose number 12 meets it, with a banjo bolt. Make sure to order the crush washers.

You can see the 00-03's slave cylinder's input port is slightly offset from the 04s, the flexible hose is fine to make this up, it just sticks down a bit farther so I loosely zip tied it to the hard line to keep it from hanging down too low. (loosely to prevent it from wearing a hole through it)

Line 12 is just a bit different orientation with a shorter locating pin. it looks like it'd go in, but just barely won't, I cut about 1/4" off of it with a dremel, and no problems after that.

Be careful when you undo the 14mm banjo bolt, it will leak clutch fluid all over. it's nasty, don't get it on your paint, it eats right through it. It's not good to get on your hands, either.

Bleeding it a bit of a pain in the butt. Best thing to do is to compress the slave cylinder piston completely and then connect the line, and only release once you have the hose connected. There will still be some air in the lines but not as much. Be sure to watch the level of the clutch master cylinder when you are bleeding, it's a pain in the butt to try to bleed the air all the way through it if your MC gets full of air.

As a result, the clutch engagement is much more positive. The engagement point is much lower on my car, suspect that it is because of the delay valve partially and possible that the slave cylinder is just different. Shifts fine, though. I really like it, eliminates one of my main complaints about the car.

Remember that I take no responsibility if you blow up your diff and get a warranty claim denied, etc. Do this mod at your own risk.

Cool,

now you have a guinea pig to play with, is it possible to remove or drill out the delay valve.

Speedracer.

i don't understand what you are talking about with a delay valve. when I put my clutch pedal to the floor, it disengages the clutch from the flywheel instantly, and all of my shifts don't slip even when I shift as quick as humanly possible. i have an '00

The '04 cars have a clutch delay valve that causes the clutch to engage a bit slower than normal. It seems to be intended to lessen drive-line shock at the expense of clutch slippage.

Nope. Definitely easier to just swap to the 00-03 valve.
