DISCLAIMER....I used these proceedures for my own conversion and to claim any liability for it or towards any who use this...use at you own risk.
please do not mind my dirty car and under carriage :
I just did this conversion this morning and thought that I would post here to add to PAS2KNut's current write up....first off I'd like to thank Jeff and Joe at Ganley for dropping the bumper off for me at Suburban to be painted for me (u guys are great) ....
first off is the removal of the old bumper.....there are 2 screws in each wheel well that need to be removed
2 buttons on the bottom of the bumper that need to be removed
3 buttons along the top here that need to be removed along with the license plate light (it will just pop out towards the car, it's not connected with anything besides pressure)
after that the bumper can be pulled out from the clips with little pressure, they should pop right out
you never know what you will find caught up behind your bumper cover, especially if you have made any Ohio forum runs to Rt 26 (is that a cigarette butt? wtf)
then you will need to place your new bumper in place to line everything up.....you will need to drill a hole through the bumper in the wheel well on each side to accomodate where the factory brackets are on the body
next you can replace the 3 buttons on the top of the bumper.....after that you will need to secure the bottom.....the brackets on the bottom of the car will not full reach the inside bottom of the MY04 bumper cover (look at the bracket on the bottom to see what I am referring to,you can see it right in front of the jack stand in the pic)
you can fabricate a bracket if you wish, but since the bottom of the bumper should be at the very least horizontal or even tucked up a little I simply used a longer bolt with a spacer in it to fasten it to the bracket on the body of the car.
.....I found this to work effectively in securing the bottom portion of the bumper.
all in all this conversion was very simple and only took about 1hr, including time to put the car up, remove the wheels, snap pics and take our time
my personal views about the MY04 rear bumper cover is that it adds more dimension to the styling of the rear end of the S2000 and provides the car with a more complete look (imo).
