Default MD/VA/DC area: Please teach me how to remove swirls

To anyone who is in the MD/VA/DC area who has a porter cable and knowledge of swirl remover...

Can anyone help me remove the swirls in my paint? Any help would be greatly appreciated, and I can throw in a 30 pack or lunch as compensation for your kindness.

Thanks!
Mike

mike-
that is the best way to learn (from someone showing you)...
if you dont find anyone in your area, post back here and we can get instructions for you.
swirl removal and more aggressive polishing steps are probably the most difficult part of detailing (mainly cause folks are not used to letting the product do the work and they dont take enough time with the product- too used to wipe on wipe off, which will not work with swirl removal).

thanks wanabe...

Like you said, it is best to learn through watching... And messing up my clearcoat is the last thing I want to do... So I really do not want to just jump into this project alone

I am not sure what my schedule is like in the next couple of weeks but if I can I will get you up to my place in Damascus. You might want to post in the
Mid-Atlantic Forum for more local options.

I've got the Porter Cable and have used various polishing compounds. I have everything necessary to polish, but I wouldn't consider myself to be an expert by any means. I've never messed up my paint if that means anything.

I use the stuff from Griot's and pretty much stick with their least abrasive polish - one time I used their middle one to take out some paw prints a dog put on the door of my wife's Passat. Fortunately I've never had to polish the S2000. I also have paint cleaning clay which I always do first before I get the polish out.

I am pretty sure that if you stick with the least abrasive one you can't go wrong. I think with the P-C polisher you would really have to try to mess up the paint. If you like we could practice on the Passat - it could use a good polishing. Although, I've owned black cars and they are the toughest to get right by far.

My schedule is pretty full for the next few weeks. If you can wait till mid July I'd be happy to lend a hand.

That's a great idea! FF2Skip and myself are the CO's for the Mid-A, and Skip handles your area. Let's see what you guys can put together - let me know if I can help.
