Default Your thoughts on the MY '04

Okay peeps, I'm not a newbie to the S2000, I have had a MY '00 for the last 2 1/2 years, but due to the fact that I am moving from Japan I have had to sell my S

Anyway, I am now faced with the dilema of whether to get a MY '04 with the reduced power and redline, or whether to go for an older second hand car in order to keep to the original design concept of having the high revving, free running engine that Honda intended to put in the car.

Since I know it is going to be tough to get a test drive in a MY '04, I was wondering whether people could tell me whether the reduction in the redline really does take away from the enjoyment of pushing the car towards its limits?

Thanks in advance everyone

James,

I think you might miss that 9K scream. Maybe that's just me. Hey, you could get a Mazdaspeed RX-8! It even looks like the front of the S!

Get the 04, its still an S. Has more refinement, looks great, just as fast if not faster.

I believe that's true. NA was the only one to get the 2.2.

Thanks for the input guys .....

Okay, I stand corrected on the power issue (I thought that there was a slight decrease in power and slight increase in torque).

Of you guys saying the MY '04 is as good, have any of you driven the pre-'04 model and experienced the 9000rpm buzz? That is what I am worried about losing

And SBS2000R, you are right. But since I am leaving Japan I am not looking at buying a JDM model this time ....

Around here, there are still a few brand new '03 S2000s. I think if you search around, you may be able to find one. I would prefer not to buy a used S, for obvious reasons, and I don't like what Honda has done with the mechanicals on the '04.

I think it would have been more true to the concept to raise the redline, not lower it. I doubt the 2.2L engine is lighter than the 2L. Everything should be (somewhat) lighter, stronger, and faster. It's easy to upgrade the fenders and lights, or the console and radio door if you just want the look of an '04.
