Default ownership questions..

hello all, i'm Chris. (woot)

i've done some researching, and i've figured out that the S2000 is what i want. my question is somewhat close to that other dood's question about depreciation in the winter.. but it's not exactly what i'm meaning to ask. see, i have a couple of loans that get paid off December of 2005. at that point, i'm planning on getting an S2000. i want to get one new because A) i've never had a new car before.. and B) i don't want to worry about previous owners and how they treated the car and so on.

what i'm wondering is how you go about things when you order a new S. like.. say i got a 2006. would i go to the dealership in December and say, "hey yo. this is what i'm thinking of. this color, these options. go makefind me one and i'll have the funds." and likewise, if i ended up finding a new 2005, would they be able to find one with the options i wanted? also, would there be any benefits to orderingfinding one in the winter? (like, if i went in right before the new MY came out and said i wanted a brand new one, would they cut me some kinda first time buyer thing, or something else for ordering a new one)

anyways, this site rulz. i look forward to many more posts. thanks for your time.

If you order in the fall or while the new model is available, they might not be willing to negotiate as much on price. Of course, you have places like Ganley Honda (Hardtopguy) that will sell it to you for one low price and you're good to go.

But you're not going to get any discounts because you buy a new car in the winter or because you're a first time buyer. Just go to the dealership (or contact Ganley) and get what you want when you want it. Or, if you find a new, previous-year model for a great price, go for it.

Remember, there aren't too many options with the S2K besides color choice. They all come with the same stuff. You can add some things afterward (aero pieces, XM radio).

yeah, i've seen that there aren't a ton of options for these cars. really all i was thinking of in terms of "options" are just like.. how you would pick what color your interior is.. looking at the 2004's on the Honda website, the only interior color they have for the GP White is that Tan. well, what if i wanted a Black one or whatever. can they do that? put a different color interior into the car if i order it like that?

thanks for the quick reply too, sir.

They only put certain color interiors into certain colored cars. In other markets outside the US (like Japan) you can have any body color with any interior color.

as mentioned, there aren't option that need to be "ordered". everything is dealer-installed or diy'er installed.

'06's won't be out until the Fall of 2005, ie 14 or 15 months from now.

as you plan for the expenses with the S, don't just look at the monthly payment. realize that your insurance is not going to be cheap, the car will eat high-$$ tires (as compared to most other passenger vehicles) and you will NEED snow tires for your winter driving.

your profile indicates that you're of an age that probably hasn't had a substantial amount of driving time in a RWD sports car. if you're not going to invest in some driving instruction, then either be prepared to take it easy for many, many, many miles as you learn the ropes OR be prepared to pay the piper when you put the rear end in a ditch or up on a curb. there's hundreds of threads... i don't need to explain.

save up your money, buy the car when you can easily afford it, ie by not eating ramen noodles 3X/day and enjoy your car when the situation materializes.
