Question Please Help, I Damaged My My04...

I honestly do not know what in the world i was doing last night. I was with a friend on a mountain road and we were just doing some spirited driving in my new Berlina S. Taking some fun corners at fun speeds but nothing excessive or out of my novice control... until one corner came. I downshifted and eased on the brakes as smooth as possible while trying to get out of flying off the road but i was on the brakes too hard and my tires just gave out.. i didnt over correct or anything but the car just slid. We spun once and then bounced over the curb and into the desert. The car slid for about 10 feet in the sand and rock before comming to a dust clouded stop. My immediate reaction was to get out of the sand so i quickly put the car into gear and eased it out of the sand back onto the road. The entire car was covered in sand inside and out (the windows were down). But that was the least of my worries. I was soo scared of what may have happened to the car damage wise that i pulled over as soon as i was on the road again and got out of the car. I had checked to make sure it went into gear smoothly and revved it a little to see if i could hear any thing that sounded really out of the norm. When i got out to check the exterior i looked at all the tires to see if any had blown on a rock, they all seemed fine. It was dark out so on the black car i couldnt really see any dents or scratches on the body but i did look as best i could including the wheels. Everything looked ok so i got back in and slowly started off again, the car started fine, the headlights, wipers, blinkers, brake and reverse lights all seemed to be properly functioning. I operated the top as well to make sure it seemed like it was working ok. I was kinda panicing because i was so scared that i had ruined my brand new car. When i got back on the road i noticed that the car is slightly out of alignment; although the steering and overall handling did not seem to be damaged. No odd noises or feelings from the steering or motor, but there was about a quarter inch of sand covering my entire interior. I tried to clean it out and vaccum as well as i could when i got home. That is when i saw a 3 inch gouge in my paint just in front of the rear passenger wheel. It must have been from a rock that had flown up . There is no paint left where the rock scratched the car and i was wondering if anyone had any ideas on if i should use touch up paint on it to avoid insurance or if there were any products available that may help me out. I really am not looking for anyone to fix my car i just needed to share this to get it out cause im still kinda rattled i guess. I apologize for making an ass out of myself and endangering the car that all of you have come to love. I will take much more care of my car from now on and I will no longer download Top Gear videos and mess around on mountain roads. If anyone has any helpful hints on what i can use to clean the leather as well as te scratch please let me know. Thank you all..

sucks you had to learn that way. i play around a little bit every now and then with some turns, but i never shift while on the turn, always before it or after. as for loosing the rear, i felt my s slide once or twice and its a scary though. all i did was ease off the gas and apply no brakes at all and i was able to regain controll.

the main probelm i see with the s2000 is that its a fun car and it taunts you to drive aggresive and test your abilities. drive safe guys...

ouch man. That gouge sounds pretty bad 3 inches? The only solution would be to get a new paint job which will cost about $800-1200 an estimate on that spot from what I've seen with other s2ks. Touch up.......Honda OEM matching is pretty bad!!!! so you only use those on spots that are really small and maybe up to the size of a dime or something but in your case 3 inches might be to much. If you can live with that scratch I'd say forget it but if your like me you'll get depressed every time you see it and pay up the big bucks for that area to get it permanently fixed and matched perfect. Also since you have a black car it is much more noticable I'm guessing. Let us know how it goes and good luck. BTW I learned about the rear end getting loose from my high modded 300zxTT. I had 450 HP or to play with and sometimes in the rain or gravel or boosting when turning tha,t shit would come loose. Just don't panic, don't hit brakes, and keep turning the wheel like a mother #$#@#@#. That is how I learned.

Bring it to a couple of body shops and get some quotes on fixing it and go from there. At most all they would have to paint is the rear quarterpanel. Since it is new color matching should not be a problem.

I completely sympathize with your situation (totaled my first S). If you want to learn your limits with the car, participate in local auto-x events. It's relatively cheap, much safer than public roads and it's fun.

p.s. - paragraphs are your friends

Sorry to hear bout that, I spun out onto a guard rail last december, didn't think anything was wrong, though I can't exactly remember what was happening...it happened way too fast!!!

I would go to a body shop also and have it fixed properly, it's brand new and the paint should match fine!! A lot of us has been there before Don't feel too bad, just learn from your mistake and it seems as if you did!

!!!!!!!&%$@!*&!!!!!!!!

Instead of worrying about a 3 inch scratch......Just be thankful you are still alive.....

Consider yourself VERY lucky that you learned the hard way without it being a "costly" lesson.

If you scroll through the forums, I posted a story just the other day on my 04 ass slipping out on me...... Yes it's scary and similar to you I got away unharmed. Your car unfortunately took the brunt of the episode.

Learn from your mistakes...........and know what you did wrong and how to correct for it next time.

A lot of members suggest auto x and I'm considering doing it myself. If it's not an option for you.....then try to test your limitations in a safe environment....

Sorry about your car....but it's a small price to pay for having your health.....

drive safe...

Hey buddy. I spun my car on a mountain road this past wednesday and ended up smacking into a fence. Left me needing two new headlights, a new front bumper and a paint job.

The whole situation really got me down at first, but when I got to thinking about I realized that it could have been so much worse.

I came just inches from wrapping the car around some trees. I could actually not be here today, but instead I walked away from the incident completely unharmed and with minimal damage (considering what could have happened).

So what I'm saying is, don't stress over having to get a paint job or an alignment. If parts need to be replaced, then they can be replaced. You can't be replaced.

Take it slow at first and be safe.

You know what you guys? I am very impressed with this website, ever since i first started comming on here and looking up info for this wonderful car i have been impressed by the level of communication and understanding for the car and one another. What i am saying is thank you so much for responding to my thread in such a way that i feel cared for and feel like part of a community of people who share a common goal. Im not trying to say S2ki has changed my life, but thank you to all who have responded and thank you for the constructiveness of the responses. I was worried that i would get tons of people saying that i was a dumb kid who didnt know how to drive a car that he is too young to own anyway. I guess i have just had bad experiences with people on other forums before. But again, thank you to all and i hope i willl get more responses from other ehthusiats on here.

Sorry that you had to learn your lesson this way.

Heel-Toe braking and disciplined driving would have prevented this.

Anyways, good luck with everything.
