Default Most expensive cars to insure

Went to check my Compuserve email today and saw a link to this story:
Most expensive cars to insure
...[Other than the] obviously expensive-to-insure lines such as the Mercedes, Jaguar, Corvette, BMW, Cadillac and Lexus...

Instead, here's a rundown on the most expensive cars to insure that the average American might be driving or considering for their next purchase -- those that cost less than $40,000 -- as researched by Runzheimer International, a Rochester, Wis., consulting firm which reviewed insurance costs on vehicles priced under $40,000.

"Honda S2000 convertible - $2,363"

Yup, sounds about right. Great, so an insurance company commissioned a study to see what the most expensive car to insure is (like they don't know). Now, they'll use their findings to increase the cost to insure an S2000, using the data in the study to justify the increase. Seems like a circular relationship in how premiums are determined, if you ask me. . . but this is all coming from someone having a ton of insurance company issues lately (not car, though).

$2,363 ???!!!!

Jesus! I pay half that (well, just over $600 every 6 months).

But then, I'm 34, married, it's a second car, and I've haven't got ticket since 1989.

I guess there is an advantage to getting older (note I didn't say old!) ...

I am 62, clean record for last 40 years, the S is the third vehicle and covered as an occasional use vehicle.

$266.50 for 6 months ...

We're only tied for #1 if you look at the total premium. If you look at the premium as a percentage of the vehicle price the Neon wins. More than 9.6% of the original value. The S is only at 7.1%

I agree that the rates they're quoting are ridiculous. Their assumption of 250/500 deductables don't help.

I'm 21 and have a reckless driving ticket. I pay $1800/yr and when the ticket drops off(next year), it will drop to $1200/yr. Location and discounts help with insurance BIGTIME.
