Exclamation Ball Joint Removing and the art of removing your a

Hello all,

I need to remove my axel and the shop manual tells me that I need two "special" tools.

07MAC-SL00200 Ball Joint Remover, 28 mm - ($165)

07XAC-001020A Threaded Adapter, 24 x 1.5 mm - ($23)

Can I just remove the ball joint with the regular little fork guy? (cheap ball joint remover)

Do I really need that little threaded dude?

Any DIY axel removing posts out there?

Also, what do people think of these:

xviper, where did you get that little beauty?
I'm lucky in that there is a neighborhood autoparts shop close to my house. They specialize mainly in domestic parts but they do carry some import stuff. That ball joint separator is just a generic piece. I also picked up an extra serpentine belt and S/C belt at about half the price of what Honda and Vortech charges.

There is a different technique when using a hammer.

Loosen the nut on the balljoint. Move the steering etc to give a clear path to the part of the component that the balljoint is going through. The trick is to hit the solid part of metal that the balljoint is stuck in end on. This shocks and distorts the ring of metal that the balljoint taper is stuck in and the balljoint pops out. The reason why you leave the nut on is so that the whole lot doesnt fall off and hit you on the feet. Make sure you give it one hard well aimed knock. Dont be scared. It wont damage the component.

When doing steering arms you kit the steering part of the upright end on.

Speedracer.

There is another reason which I learned the hard way years ago. If you don't have the nut on there for the hammer to make contact with, you will distort the end of the threaded rod (that extends from the tapered part of the joint). A couple good whacks is all it takes to partially flatten the end and ruin the first couple of threads.

xviper,

It's an inside joke. Just a few friends talking about this thing...UCrazyKid and Diatomic are having issues with anal leaking. For the love of god, and all that is holy...
