Default Mid-A Caravan to Fall Colors on Fri 10/22

Hey Y'all - Last year I caravaned to Hagerstown with some other Mid-A members. It would be nice to do that to Pittsburgh this year. So...start posting your interest! I personally will be looking for a fun backroads route like the one I took to OH recently, but I realize alot of you just want to haul a-- up there on the interstates.

Update 10/20/04: PLEASE CONFIRM YOUR PLAN TO DRIVE IN THE CARAVAN. I will post confirmations below, along with where you will be meeting up. Show up with a full tank of gas and radios set to 13.1.

Here's a detailed route provided by George (gfacter) - thanks, George! PLEASE NOTE IT HAS CHANGED to avoid the PA Turnpike altogether. But I am leaving the other one in case some of you want to split off at the end of the trip and go that way. George and I favor the more scenic route and the first one will take us through downtown Pittsburgh. You might want to print out this post for reference.

I like the concept, but I agree that it's a bit early to think about it. I'll revisit the thread when you bump it next month.

You all should think about driving out to North-Western Virginia and hit the Blue Ridge parkway, if you haven't been up there it's pretty sweet, just have to hit it at the right time of day.

The BRP?FYI that's more like SW VA, A bit out of the way when driving to Pittsburg.

For one thing on this Caravan, Do not take the PA turnpike, it sucks.

For straight slab I-68 to I-79 is much much better. we could even think about taking Rt 40 ALT from Grantsville MD into PA for some nice backroads.

Absolutely agree with you, George. Avoid the turnpike at all costs! And I do like your backroad idea, of course. The BRP is a nice road but out of the way for those of us in NOVA. Plus, some of the Mid-A members have bad memories of that road.

Riding in a pack is always more fun! Janet and I will be heading up Thursday morning after the children get off to school. I doubt anyone else is going up that soon.

^ Yeah, you are probably right. I'm planning to leave 9:30 or so on Fri. I think it will be about 5 hours on backroads/combo. We'll get the details togther later for those who want to drive up together. As for you and Janet, we will have to have a special toast to your attendance!!

I'm starting a list of interested peeps in the first post...
