HOLY COW! That retainer almost cracked all the way through!

Good save Bill! Wow Jacko, you have no idea how close you were to needing a brand new motor that would surely had to have come out of your pocket.

That was most definately some good luck. Stuff like that almost never get noticed until it's too late.

Yea I still can't believe it myself, the car was running fine no drive issues
and no noise coming from the valve train. I highly suggest that you all
check your valves on a regular basis I had a long talk with Jeff (hardtopguy)
Today and this is a major week point in our valve train himself and the
dealership ( Gainly ) is now suggesting to all there customers a inspection
of the retainers be done about every 15,000 miles or so depending on how
hard you drive, We all know how hard Jacko drives anyway I'm not the
only one who has had this problem if fact he mention that James ( Reedz )
was just down there with the same issue only he managed to get about 60,000
miles out of his. more pictures to follow.

Bottom line Honda wont pay, or at least thats what the service manager says
but after talking to Jeff and all the research I have been doing the past few days
I'm not sure if thats 100% true it may come down to the dealer level.

I'm having new parts shipped from Jeff asap!!! should be to Bill on Tuesday
so I think I'll make it to fall colors as long as Bill's schedule allows
I can't tell you how pissed I'm about this whole thing!!! just pours salt in an
already quite deep wound cut by Honda's service dept. I'm sure some of you
remember my past problems with them. I just feel like no matter what you have
no say... So guess what all you guys that bucked up for extended warranty
Thinking your covered ...think again because all they have to say is " NO "
it was driver abuse, or in my case an over rev. And thats that, and to
finish you off you have to pay for any work they might of done, like taking
it apart to see whats up.

This pic is the best representation of what we found. The middle valve in this pic is the one with the broken retainer. This is the flat round disc, just above the yellow part of the spring. My first pic is of the underside of this disc, which can't be seen without taking the retainer off the spring.

Notice the height of the middle valve, or it's protrusion through the retainer. The valve on the right is normal. The valve on the LEFT I'm certain has started to crack, notice how it's lower than the one on the right, but not as bad as the one in the middle.

A meticulous retainer inspection will be added to all my custom valve adjustments at no extra charge.

PS...Thanks Mikey you'll be ringing your car's neck at fall colors
