Default Thoughts on a NEW rear brake compound for the S2K

In an effort to adress customer concerns and to keep moving the science of racing brakes on the S2000 forward, we've been talking to Cobalt Friction about alternate compounds for the rear pads used in the stock S2000 caliper.

We might be able to bring out a new compound in the S2000 rear fitment that more closely matches the endurance characteristics of the impressive Spec-VR front pad many of you are using now. The new compound would have essentially the same temp range as the Spec-VR but a different torque curve and a solid but not too aggressive initial bite in order to avoid upsetting the braking balance of the car.

In order for us to be able to have a production run of this compound made in the proper sizes, we need to know if the price we'd have to charge for this compound is in line with what people would expect to pay for a full-blown race-bred pad. At this point in time, the pads would have to retail for $109 per axle set, so only slightly more than the current crop of race pads out there including the Spec-C pad we've been selling for some time.

What do you guys think? Would you buy rear pads for that price if they were to last longer than the current Cobalt compounds we have?

Yes.
I should add that I am very impressed with the Hawk blues in rear, so these would have to be at least as good.

This compound has higher torque than a hawk blue, but the initial response is smoother, so it doesn't unbalance the car.

Specifications for the new compound would be:
Coefficient of Friction: 0.62mu
Optimal Temperature Range: 300F-1450F
Fade-Critical: 1550-1600F

So a much higher temp range than the blues with all the benefits of the Cobalt line such as dust that doesn't turn into cement.

After lots of e-mails between JP and Andie, I have to say thanks to you both.

As you know I just tried the spec-VR and spec-C this past weekend, and am absolutely impressed with their performance. I was however a bit shocked to see the rear pads consumed in just 3-days.

Even though I have a lot of experience with the Hawk Blues, I just don't want to use them because of the horribly corrosive nature of the pad dust after it has gotten wet and then allowed to dry on the wheel.

So, I don't mind the price, but those silly pads had damn well better last more than 3-day.

Thanks for working with Andie to bring us what we really want!!!
