I'm going to Europe!
My g/f and I leave for 3wks on Aug 19th.
We fly to Amsterdamn from San Francisco. From there we will head over to France, then south to Switzerland and Italy.
We really aren't planning the trip too much. We will mainly be traveling via train and some parts w/ rental cars.
I would love to meet some of you, but I am not sure of my exact plans.
Any good places I must visit?

3 weeks = maybe you should get the "interail" train ticket, which for 1000 Frs allows you to travel on all european train lines for 1 month.
And if you have enough money I strongly recommend renting a car! Nothing beats driving through switzerland and Italy in the summer! And depending on how you like it, you can always sleep in the countryside with sleeping bags.
Don't miss Paris, Marseille, and of course the italian cities. Greece is a must also, and probably the cheapest country for accomodation, food and travel.
And I'd love to take you for a quick european-style highway driving tour (i.e. twice as fast as in the US!!
)

Rent a car in Nice and do a 2 day trip of the back country. Then realize what you have missed by not bringing your s2k over here ....
I second hehash comments. Try at least to get to Barcelona if you can. Next time, come to Iberia in June. Best part of Europe for travelling.
As for meeting other owners, there is an active group in the Benelux that I'm sure will chime in and set up something for you...

Krazik,
As far as Amsterdam is concerned. Rent a bike for each the second you get there. Amsterdam is great to travel around by bike and the bikers have the right of way over the cars and pedestrians there(it seems that way, even if not true). I don't know what you are into, but if you like to go clubbing, go to Trance Buddha(spelling?) Also, if you are interested in coffee shops, go to STIX(on Utrecht Straat), it was my favorite(please try the Lonely Widow, you won't be dissapointed) You may want to visit the grasshopper, but do not buy anything there(unless you want souverneir lighters), very touristy and expensive.
Eat at the Pancake Bakery(have the bacon and cheese pancakes(trust me)), it is located on Priensen Gracht(spelling) near the Anne Frank House. You won't be dissapointed.
Go to the Van Gogh museum and the Heineken brewery.
Ofcourse visit the redlight district, maybe catch a sex show, maybe when your girlfriend is napping
There is also a great Italian Restaurant on Utrecht Straat, I don't remember the name.
This is a fun town, please enjoy it to the fullest.
Remember, marijuanu is tolerated there, so smoke em if you got em, if you don't got em, go pick em up at STIX.
Also, if you ask a local to roll you a joint, they will put tobacco inside as well, just ask them to do it without tobacco.

Hi Krazik,
I'm quite sure we can work out some kind of meeting with a fellow owner. Just give some details about your plans. On a weekday night is fine with me or weekend (I have to work....). As for what you want to see and do, it all depends on what your interests are. I don't like to play the Dutch board of tourism here
Biking is a good option. People are often surprised that Amsterdam only has about 700000 inhabitants. I guess it's the smallest famous city in the world! But this way you can reach everything interesting in a very small place with a bike. A lot of good musea are available. But we have of course more than only Amsterdam, just give a clue what you want. Also there's a lot of info available on the internet. A visit to the redlight district is a must, It's really amazing I can tell you.
Here are a couple of useful links:
Official Amsterdam site
De efteling (amusement park)
Keukenhof (the flower experience)
The internet guide to Amsterdam (a must read)

too bad everybody focuses on our liberal drugs policies, it makes a lot of tourists think everybody smokes pot overhere. I personally (and a lot of friends) don't use it. But if you want: nobody is going to stop you. Who said America is the land of the free?
When I was 19 I was in the States and found out I had to be 21 to drink a beer, that was strange!
