The driver in the first video wasn't particularly smooth, but he seemed to be pretty fast. I'm assuming he is on R-compounds and that is why he was consistently able to make up time under braking and in the corners. Thoses Ferraris could really walk on him in the straights, though!

Actually, contrary to your post MXT, I think the driver is very smooth. Not smooth
in the steering wheel per say, but smooth if you look at vehicle dynamics if you
were in the audience stand. Those fast steering inputs that look jerky are there
to catch the rear or help the front regain traction. Looks like you attend autox
in the S2k, so I'm sure you know all of this. I think a super smooth driver is
usually a slow driver... and wouldn't be able to catch up to those F-cars.

I disagree. I've watched in-car video of Michael Schumacher vs many of his competitors and he is (generally) much smoother than they are, and he is (generally) faster than they are. I also know that I am generally faster when I am smoother, both on the autocross course and the track. Sure, when you're pushing the envelope, there are going to be times where you cross the limit a bit and have to correct, but if you run the course perfectly, your inputs will be smooth and not require any corrections.
