Default Why Does The S2000 Gas Mileage Suck?

I own a 2000 Mustang GT and it gets about the same gas mileage as a S2000. Plus, my V-8 can use regular unleaded (87 Octane).

Why is the S2000 so fuel inefficient? It just doesn't make sense to me.

With gas prices going through the roof, this must be a question that others are curious about as well. Thanks in advance.

Thumbs up

I simply cannot relate.

I get 23-25 mpg in mixed driving and 30 mpg on the highway.

Because it is a high compression, high revving engine. The fuel requirements are high because of the compression ratio.

I don't know about you, but I didn't buy an S2000 for fuel economy.

what rpm does your mustang hum along at in top gear? what rpm does the s2k hum along at in top gear? Gearing is my bet. It's not the compression of the engine. Compression is good for economy.. Honda's VTEC-E super high efficiency motors have all had the highest possible compression they could run on 87.

if you drive it like you hate it the car is not economical. If you shift around 4 you will get 26-30 depeneding how much stop/starting you do. Even if you cruise the highway on a trip at 80-85 you will still get 28

Yeah, but the S2000 is only 4 cylinders.

Are there any other 4 bangers with worse gas mileage than the S2000?
