anyway - I made a board at the correct diameter which floats right such that the top is even with the hub where the bolts go on the car to attach a mtx 282 and stilts to mount an audiobahn 6004T above it and they fit nicely in the spare - maybe I will need to cool with a fan on a thermostat but maybe not - the audiobahn moves a little air - we shall see - plus the center cut out for the hub will allow some air movement (heat rises) I left enogh wire to lift out the spare in which case I will just put the board where the spare was if ever needed
I'm more into trunk/passenger space (and stealth, I guess) than blingage so I really like the way you made the most of your spare tire area without actually sacrificing the spare tire.
I also like how you have the amps oriented perpendicular to make connections/adjustments more accessible.
This is the kind of thread that will be tremendously helpful to other S2000 owners. If you feel like it, and if you have time, it might be even more helpful to post the diameter of your mounting board and location of any cutouts.
For anybody following J Nick's lead, his listed amp dimensions are as follows:
MTX Thunder 282: 9.4"W X 9.75"D X 2.1"H
AUDIOBAHN A6004T: 11.4"W x 11.7"D x 2.4"H
(That Audiobahn looks like a great amp! )
Based on those dimensions it looks like the "stilts" are about 2.5" high. Does that sound about right?
J Nick, if you ever need to shed your amp stack for the track, there are some great suggestions in this thread for quick disconnects:
Also, I have a single amp in my spare tire and have been investigating different ways to stabilize the spare without the center bolt.
*Some people use a pillow, or foam wedges to prevent it from moving.
*I started messing around with the idea of making a "harness" for the spare (haven't finished it yet...)
-I bought a short bolt with the same threading as the spare tire retainer bolt, and I got a ratcheting 1" wide nylon tiedown strap, and some grommets. My idea was to poke a hole in the strap and insert a grommet, then bolt the grommet to the existing hole, leaving enough strap to wrap across the tire. Then slide the tire in and tighten the strap with the ratchet.
-One could also do this with dual perpendicular straps to hold the tire in two dimensions
-The only downside to this is that the strap wrap idea doesn't provide a lot of pressure to hold the tire down (just back and forth, side to side). With your dual amp stack, I don't think your spare is going to be hopping around much.
Anyway, it's great to see your install. Very cool!

Nice install just curious how it will work with the heat from the amps being in the tire. Wonder how hot they will get.
may have to wait for summer to really know - i'll be sure to let people know if it becomes an issue but i suppose it depends on several to many factors
amps and how they are used, climate, etc, etc
I am ready to deal with it with a small fan for ventilation

Yeah, hopefully you will be okay. Otherwise as you suggested a fan might help. Beyond that, maybe a way to maximize contact of the lower amp and the spare--make it into a giant heatsink...???
But you don't need to fix a problem until you have a problem!
