Default Arghhhh! Metal on metal "tap tap tap" sound...

Pulled into my garage last night and heard the dreaded "valve noise". I sure hope it is not what I think it is..#4.

Normal commute home. Maybe hit 6500 RPM once or twice. 1200 miles on the OD. Checked oil very often. Still shows full up to the top X now.

I broke this car in very very carefully. No VTEC, even warmed it up for a few mins before driving it every time.

Taking it into Broadway Honda Oakland CA. Anyone have thoughts on their mechanics?

I love this car! I sure hope it is not an indicator of things to come...

Ian

Doesn't sound good, but I hope we are all just paranoid. Never used Braoadway Honda, but if you need a recomendation on another dealer, I would highly recommend Doten Honda in Berkeley. Talk to Jim Neilsen, their service manager and tell them Ed with the Silver S2000 referred you. I've known them for years and they have been great.

Good luck!

Ian: I was told by the DSM here in Texas that hard cornering to the right with even a .5 quart deficiency of oil can starve the #4 cylinder. He said that aside from that, they have had some problems with machining on a few engines and that has resulted in the #4 failure as well.

I hate to be a pessimist, but it sounds a lot like the #4 problem. Whatever it is, I hope the dealer gives you no grief and gets you squared away as soon as possible!

How loud is this tap tap tap sound? About 3 or 4 weeks ago, I noticed my car starting to make a ticking sound, sounds like a valve tapping.

It then started idling pretty rough and today the check engine light came on. I haven't been driving it much for the past 3 weeks because I haven't had time to take it in. I checked the oil before I took it in today and it was right where it is supposed to be. I took it in for 4 problems, rough idle, loud ticking sound, bubbles on dash board and LOUD whining sound coming from the differential. I'm anxious to see what they say about them, especially the engine and differential problems.

Ilink and S2kman,

I sure hope that the cars turnout to be OK. Unfortunately, having experienced the TAP-TAP-TAP as well, it does not sound to good. When I saw Ilink's post a sent an e-mail to Barry W so that he could touch base and point you to his link, it is a good source of information. I also knew he would want to update the thread.

If I can be of any assistance with info for contacts or anything please let me know.

Again, good luck, I sure hope all turns out OK for you two.
