Default How much oil can you overfill

Anyone know how much additional oil one can run before the crank hits the oil or other complications occur?

.5 qt? Full qt?

TIA,
-Ry

My parents' Camry was taken in for an oil change a few years ago and never removed the old oil. It carried the double load well although there were occasional smoke belches and I gotta believe the crank was whipping in air very well.

I drained out quite a bit of it so they could go home without doing more damage...

Please explain your reasoning. Are you afraid you may be getting oil starvation while taking hard corners?

After loosing my engine on the Dragon this fall I decided to over fill by a half quart before I just went to run it and revisit the "scene of the crime".

I've been checking everything very regularly and I have not seen any negative effect at all of adding the extra half quart. Plus I didnt blow my engine again so hey, that gets a big thumbs up in my book

And my reasoning was to prevent oil starvation. The only explaination I could find for my engine dying was oil starvation in cylinder 2. I cant think of a more likely place for this to happen than on the dragon so I decided to overfill and see how it worked out.

I think you'd have a hard time, if not impossible one starving the oil pump on street tires.

hmmmm....I ran the dragon pretty hard, oil full...

Customer of mine overfilled his Taurus by 2 qts....blown rear main seal, blown oil pan gasket, blown front crank seal was the result a few days later

Who here dumps the whole six quarts in the motor at oil change?
