Default Snow driving

drove the car to work today for the first time in serious snow - thought it handled pretty good although admittedly i went everywhere at about 15-20 mph!

had a couple of backend going sideways moments when pulling off but that was remedied by using 2nd gear to pull away.

think the full new set of S02s that i had fitted on saturday will have helped a bit too.

so generally not as dodgy as i thought it may have been in the snow

I used my impreza this morning, pulled off a gritted road round a corner 20mph ish and the road wasn't gritted. I started sliding towards the other side of the road and noticed a large yellow skip in the way. Luckily the car stopped going sideways before I got there. Got have been rather embarrassing

Good timing of thread

Had to cancel morhing of work 2day due to heavy snow causing major jams, my car had major problems going up hills of around 5-10%. Its a mazda 626 FWD quite heavy.

Can anyone tell me wether the S2k has enough traction to go up hills of around 10% as my work route has many hills/bumps,especially MY04s

Thanks

Are those Imprezas as skittish as the S in icy/snowy conditions? I had some vanker in a Impreza right up my jacksy for a few miles this morning, I was driving at around the speed limit on twisty roads and I had to steer into the slip twice, the gary'd up impreza obviously thought he could go a lot quicker.

It should do but why not stick a sack of cement or the equivalent in the boot. Bit of extra weight over the rear axle which give you a bit more traction.

Agreed. I used to do that - it helps a lot!

Euan's currently got snow tyres and a 25Kilo bag of sand in the boot.
He'll be like a pig in $hit today, he's been desperate for the snow to arrive

That's probably why he isn't posting on this as he must be out going large.

Sadly I'm working, and the car's in the garage. Weekends are it's only outings, and except for xmas, there has been no snow at weekends yet

That said, with the right tyres on the car is unstoppable, and the rear end very predictable an easily corrected. You can't of course drive it fast, but you have enough control to make reasonable progress, and need have no fear of getting stuck.

I was driving in 3-4 inches of virgin snow on xmas morning without any problems.

Very skittish, all 4 wheels easily loose all traction, can be fun but not when there's a skip in the way, he was just being an idiot
