Default Mid Ohio Track Day

2005 Track Day Schedule:

Here are the dates and events that we talked about on Sunday 3/6.

Available Dates:
Friday July 1st
Monday July 4th
Friday August 5th
(note: These dates will go fast, but there are many available dates Mon.-Thurs.)

Track Rental: $8000/day
Track Insurance: ?? (waiting call back)

Renting the track includes:
Use of the track and facilities** from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm
Corner Workers
Emergency Vehicles and Workers
Wrecker

Concessions:**
Awaiting call back to find out more, but I was told by the Mid Ohio official that to the best of his knowledge, there is no extra charge to have them open during the lunch hour.

Garages:**
Garage A (1-6) - available on all days shown
Garage B (7-20) - limited availability on 8/5
Garage C(21-26?) - available on all days shown

Parking:**
Limited on the 8/5 date around the Garage B & C area due to Mid Ohio Driving School. However, I was assured that there would be plenty of parking around the false grid, maintenance areas and in front of the concession stand.

More information will come if it is decided to pursue this further.

Right now, I am posting to gauge interest and to find support for planning this event since I am new to this.

Thanks,
Gary

I've yet to be on a track, depending on the costs I'd love to do this...especially with many of you who have alot of track experience

Gary,

as we discussed, crunching the numbers here and I think $225/person will do the magic. We need minimum of 45 people. Extra money will be used to pay for waters, donuts and coffees. Also, couple of cases of oil in case. Rest could be used to pay any other expenses

Also, Assuming about 9 out of 45 people are advanced then we have 36 people who needs instructors. Dividing 36 people into 3 groups leaves us 12 people on the track thus we need 12 ~ 15 instructors. That number changes depending on how many people signs up for advanced group and also how many cars are allowed on the track at the same time. Obviously, there isn't any cost to the instructors and instructors are volunteers.

This will definitely work as long as we start early on registration and make sure everyone pays and make it none refundable couple of weeks prior to the event.

DO IT!

Sounds cool but it really depends on the price. I love Mid-Ohio. It's a demanding course.

I'll get with Rusty Bell who is a past Regional Executive for the Ohio Valley Region of the SCCA and get his input. Many of the SCCA events held there including all Pro events open to the general public ;he has been involved in. Your July 1- & 4th dates have issues because of a long holiday weekend I'm sure many may have already planned. The August date look like the best bet.

....and not to throw a wet blanket on things but the 45 car minimum to break even may be a bit optimistic. I'll let you know next week

Its on like Donkey Kong!

I love mid-ohio. It very technichal and demanding and newbies to the track will definitly need to pace themselves. The concrete patches are nice, but that changes with rain. The slope and elevation changes there are awesome and a blast when you get a grasp on it. I have plenty of track time there and will be more than happy to help anyone get around the track. Mid-Ohio is still difficult to me even after training with Skip Barber there. I really look forward to this event if it flys. I know Joe, Jeff, Gary, Scott and others are seasoned here so we should have plenty of hands on. I have some suggestions for the actual event to help people get up to speed and remain safe and keep their car in one piece. We are in good hands with Gary and we will make this work sometime this year.

I might suggest that maybe we can talk with someone with the Porsche and Shelby Club, they usually have no problem letting people tag along, as longs as we don't take over and be very respectful. I will make some calls next week!

Lets party!

I'm definitely interested in this! I would love to do some track running this spring/summer and would love some instruction and guidance from all you seasoned vets!

Good call Gary!

I know at least 3+ other local guys who would be interested in doing this.

I was told that insurance for the event will be as high as the cost to rent the track;therefore your 45 car to break even will have to be doubled at least.
