Default Running in Experiment

So here is my dilemma? pick up the new 05 "s" in a couple of weeks, now the stealership told me " don't bother running it in" and when i asked the forum a few weeks ago i got told "run it in" so my question is..... its a company car, its got extended warranty, i will only keep it 3 years tops (company policy), if it breaks they (Honda) mend it..... SHALL I JUST GUN IT FROM THE START? All the other company vehicles i have owned i haven't bothered to run in and compared with similar cars mine feels smoother and also a bit more nippy, thoughts please.

The owners manual says run it in.

Dealers are generally muppets.

Run it in.

I reckon thrash the living cr@p out of it from day one, then report back on general performance, oil usage etc, it'll give us a definitive answer to the running in or not question.

Take it a little easy on the brakes etc though, other things do need bedding in.

I agree

Thrash it to death from the moment you get it.

Don't worry about things like warming it up either.

Oil levels are pretty irrelevant on this car, so don't worry about those.

In fact, disregard pretty much everything in the handbook! Trust your experience.

Its a bit like going to Synthetic oil early. Opinions differ...

Thrashed cars will be looser and produce more power earlier by my rule of thumb may not last as long though ...are you bothered?

BUT shouldn't be too much of an issue as long as you check on the oil every 300 miles for the first 1000 miles I reckon, then every 500 miles for the next 8000 until service time.

Oh WTF by the way............

WTF, someone else is paying for the car, why treat it with any sort of respect or mechanical sympathy whatsoever.

wait, i don't want to destroy this beautiful car that my boss has been so nice to buy me, just the running in bit, i WILL wait for it to get warm, and i WILL check the oil regularly just not sure about running it in. I suppose the truth is i cannot wait for the moment. Oh by the way is it true that until the temp gauge shows 3 bars the car wont let you vtec?

I read a very good article once that detailed why you should give an engine a bit of a thrash early on, the first 50 miles or so being the most important to get right.

I'll try & find it.
