Fatal Carrera GT crash
That car appears it's a bit much for nearly anyone who drives it...
Don't know if it's true or not, but here in Columbus apparently Bobby Rahal had one delivered and after driving it decided it was too much car for him and decided not to buy it.
Such a shame...

The cockpit appears to be relatively intact. I'm surprised the ocupants died based on that. But, it sounds like the car might have been in the 150+ mph range when this happened, so I'm guessing it was the extreme g-forces. In which case, I'm surprised the car held up so well.

that slide show seems to show alot more damage to the car than that one picture.
according to honda-tech post.... a ferrari had just come out of pits which caused this car to swerve...... apparently the ferrari hesitated when they waved him out...... then they screamed for him to NOT go and he went.???
that is what was posted there.... not sure if it is true or not.

Things I've read that I tend to believe:
- This was a hot lap during a DE, not a parade lap.
- The CGT swerved to avoid a Ferrari entering the course.
- The CGT was in the 150 to 165 mph range.
I've also heard that the F-car was waved onto the track, the driver checked the track himself, then went. (The "hesitation" mentioned above.) At which point the marshall told him to stop but it was too late by then. My guess is that the marshall and F-car driver aren't used to having vehicles approach them at 160mph, and therefore weren't able to properly judge the closing rate. If the CGT had been an S2000 at 120mph instead, I suspect the Ferrari would have been able to enter the course with plenty of safety margin.
Here's an aerial photo of the track.

I can't tell where the crash happened. I'm guessing it's the wall just north of the infield straight, though.

I would agree with everything you said..... at 160mph that porsche was closing fast.
How would you feel if you were the Ferrari owner....... people throwing stuff on the internet basically saying he didn't listen and potentially caused this mess.... Horrible position to be in for him for sure.
