Talk about being shocked! This Subaru WRX is awesome! The looks leave alot to be desired but it makes up for it in it's peppy, quiet, robust engine! I did not know the WRX comes with a Turbo --- also very impressive! It seemed faster than my S2000! Certainly had less of a commotion getting to a high speed!

I took it on a really twisty road and the saleman was loving every minute of it! He even yelled out "YAAAHHOOOO!" I felt like I was back at the Dragon! It cornered very, very well! In fact, the only thing I would do (if I was actually in the market for this car) is replace the tires to a "stickier" series!

I ran the entire road once (about 4 miles). The road dumps back onto a highway and the salesman looked over at me and asked if I would mind driving through the road one more time! Of course, I said "YEAH!" When driving this time, I hit some gravel (about 70 mph into the curve). . .the car almost spun around and amazingly the salesman was still yahooing his brains out! I thought we were going "bye-bye!" The car quickly regained control (or like the salesman said. . .that I quickly regained control). Whatever, it was one hell of a drive! I thought I'd be pulling pine needles out of my teeth!!!

Here's the really funny part. . .if there can be such a thing!

We get back to the dealer and the salesman is telling all of the other sales people outside that I drove him on one of the best drives ever! (Yeah, I nearly killed us both )! He's telling the whole story and the folks are agreeing with him saying. . ."well, he should know how to drive seeing that he drives an S2000!" Then, suddenly. . .some folks walk out to the car and start it. They begin to drive it away when I notice that there are permanent plates on the car!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG! I drove someone else's car like that! I am still in shock! If those people ever find out. . .

I tell you. . .the more I think about it, it really bothers me! There was about 600 miles on it so I should have been weary, but the whole presentation of the car was relaxed. . .I figured it was their demo!

Not to say the least, the salesman just looked at me and grined! I went up to him and quitely asked, was that someone's car we just drove? He smiled and said, yeah. . .but we have another one here in the same color!

That kind of pisses me off.... I'll make sure I remember that next time I buy a car....

Dammit Airgate! I really hate it when my friends cheat on their girlfriends! Now go right out to the garage and tell her you're sorry!!

Then, go out tomorrow and buy her some new fog lights and some Zaino!

Any idea why these people were at the dealer ship with a WRX with only 600 miles on it? Or was it someone who worked there?

Ok, for anyone paying attention (Tokyo James), I said before you'd have to be terribly committed to performance to actually buy a car as ugly as the WRX. . . Well, wait--let me digress for a second--There are two new cars on the market that I fit the demographic for: the WRX and the S 2000. Both are pretty much balls out cars that place fun and performance ahead of convenience and comfort (RUF notwithstanding). (My past daily drivers include a race prepped 914 and a highly modified FZR).
In any case, I've recently driven the S2K twice--once carefully and once with a death wish. I was very impressed both times and after surviving the latter, sought out a dealer who had a black one at MSRP. However, I soon grew sick of dealing with Honda dealers in CA trying to get 38+K for the cars and, well, found myself at a Subaru dealer--again--tonight while waiting for the '02 models.
The WRX wasn't ugly to me as it had previously been. Don't know what happened, but the guppy-esque 4 door looked pretty seductive. . . . anyhow, after negotiating a fair price and going through all the finance stuff, I took it for a drive WITHOUT the salesman. Having filled my mind with all of the supremely positive things motojournalists have said about the scoobie, I thought I'd be driving home in one tonight. Let me say very loudly that I was not impressed at all. I ignored the slippery/squealy RE 92s and I ignored the excessive body roll and I ignored the turbo lag and the sedan-ish environment and, well, simply put--I did not experience anything in the Scoobie that made as much of an impression on me as the S 2000--the seating position, the transmission, the sound of the engine, the placement of the pedals, the lack of lag. . . everything in the Honda feels like a race car, whereas the Subaru felt like a speedy rental car: Very clean, very economical and very willing to take abuse, but not something I want in my garage. If you've got an S2000, trust me--you're not missing anything.

Just my two lincolns. . .

I agree w/ Nobody...the WRX is a nice car for what it is and the price, but nowhere close in terms of the overall driving experience. I'd buy one if I needed a practical wagon (much better looking than the sedan IMO), but it wouldn't be an adequate substitute for the s2k.
